We travelled to Nara for a few days with our toddler, and the Setre Naramachi was a fantastic location. Right across from a gorgeous walking area, beside beautiful structures, and down the street from a vibrant shopping/eating area. Not to mention is a skip and a hop to Nara Park. So, the location cannot be beat! The staff were extremely kind and extremely friendly, and were absolutely doting on our toddler. They made us feel right at home while also being extremely professional. Celia went out of our way to make sure we had a comfortable stay. The Japanese breakfast was incredible, thoughtful, and highlighted the beautiful local foods from the area - it was so impressive.Which is why it was such a disappointment with the rooms. Firstly, the room was so bright at night because the window coverings were so far away from the actually window, and they clearly were not cut to size, so tons of light was leaking in. I’m not sure if the room has undergone a renovation recently, but near the beds it smelt extremely strongly of a vinegar smell - kind of like paint or paint thinner or glue. You could see on some of the wood paneling the adhesive glue that has dripped and solidified on the side. I loved the idea that the room was eco friendly, but some of the items seemed a bit worse for wear. For example, the soap bottle was refill friendly, but it looked so scratched and soap caked on that I’m not sure when was the last time it had been thoughtfully cleaned. Also, and I’m sure this is a structural barrier to the building that would be hard to fix, but the doors swing outward into the hallway, and I almost hit another guest on the way out. And because it swings out, there is no additional locking mechanism on the door, which made me feel a little less comfortable at night. The last concern was with the bathroom area. There is no door to the sink area, so it’s 100% audible during the night if anyone got up to wash their hands or brush their teeth while others were sleeping, and if you turned on the light the entire room would light up. If the rooms were more thoughtful, this would be such a lovely place to truly relax. But, if you more need just a place to rest your head and you don’t really care about the room concerns, then I think this hotel is a great option especially given the location, food, and staff.

Superb hotel, very beautiful rooms, nice design, “aperitif” available all afternoon and evening in comfortable sofas with a view of the garden and its chickens, without forgetting the library/disc area. Perfect for enjoying Nara in a quiet evening and/or very early in the morning.

I stayed here for the third time after a long time.aeru room Room 203 Is there a stone structure in the room? I was wondering why. When you look at that wall at night, you can see the Mahoroba mountain range under the full moon❗️When I asked about it, I was told that the room had no clock or TV, and was a special room designed so that you could enjoy the silence. What has changed from last time is that there is an enzyme footbath in the courtyard and three free-range chickens (three eggs are placed at the front desk every morning and given to those who request them).Breakfast was a rice ball set (you can order 2 out of 7 types of Asuka soup and rice balls).Different drinks are available depending on the time of day. It's the perfect space to forget about work and relax.

As soon as I entered the hotel, I was given a comfortable guide and the staff were very kind and it was a wonderful hotel. He was very thorough in his explanations and made various suggestions which were very helpful. It seems that the welcome canelé that everyone wrote about is no longer available.Soft drinks and alcohol were available in the lounge on the first floor, and alcohol was unlimited until 6am the next day. There was no particular time restriction for soft drinks.Alcohol options included beer, sake, red and white wine, sparkling wine, peach wine, and highballs. Soft drinks included apple, orange, grape, coffee, and tea.I was happy to have some light snacks and sweets.Drinks can be taken not only to the lounge on the first floor, but also to your room and drink in your room, so it might be a good idea for people who want to relax and drink in their room.It seems like you can take a foot bath by putting your feet in cypress powder, but when I went there, I didn't know if it was fermenting properly. I couldn't use it because I couldn't. disappointing.During the day, you can rent a bicycle for free at the hotel, so I explored the area by bicycle. There are only 4 units available, so if you want to rent one, you should check first. Apparently it's up to 3 hours at a time.I was able to climb the stairs from the 4th floor to the roof terrace. There is a library and a space where you can listen to records on the second floor, and I liked that space as it was very relaxing. The meals included breakfast and dinner, but for dinner, they poured us a pairing of drinks, gave us detailed explanations, and made it very delicious. The breakfast rice balls were also very delicious and I ate all kinds. The design of the room was wonderful, and I was very satisfied with the service, staff, richness, and food.Thank you for letting us stay at your wonderful hotel. I would like to use it again when I go to Nara.

Highly recommended hotel! The location is great and the hotel is very stylish and comfortable. The staff are all kind and make you feel at home.I get the impression that there are a lot of guests from Japan and other countries, so I think it's a good place for families to stay. The greenery in the courtyard is beautiful, and you can enjoy feeding the chickens and bathing your feet, making your stay at the hotel more enjoyable. There is a free drink and snack lounge for guests, with a wide variety of alcoholic and soft drinks.

Children and grandchildren celebrated Kouki.A restaurant located on the first floor of the hotel near Sarusawa Pond. Everything is stylish. And quiet. We were given a spacious private room so our grandchildren could relax and enjoy themselves. The dishes are made with carefully selected ingredients from Yamato. It was delicious. Nara Park is also nearby, so you can play with deer.
