I have to agree with many of the unflattering reviews.1. The carpets on the 5th floor corridor was stained. The tatami room had cobwebs on the ceiling light.2. Switched to a western room the 2nd night, a slight improvement but there were stains on the fake leather headboard and it was also...gasp peeling. It's the same condition in my friend's room so can't be a one off. Hotel supposedly completed refurbishment in April 20243. When I got to my new room on the 2nd night, the room door was left ajar and the room key I was just given did not work. Staff had to come up with a new keycard and I had to request that she stay while I made sure no one was in the room.4. Billed as an onsen resort hotel but the onsen was mediocre. Only one restaurant on-site and it doesn't serve a la carte.5. The one saving grace was the buffet breakfast, great quality and a wide choice with staff working hard to clean and replenish food.6. Many of the staff I think are trainees or part timers but all remained polite while working under pressure.

With a French boss, the whole thing is running out of time, I don’t like it!I am a Hari ethnic group! I stayed at this hotel with a group on the night of August 20, 2009, and I left a very good impression at that time. I am sorry to hear that this hotel was resold by the Yamato Royal Group to the French Accor Group. I hope it will be sold in 2024. The Beppu Bay Resort Hotel, which reopened in April, will get better and better, and the service and meals will still maintain five-star standards.PS1:😭😭😭I don’t like French people!I very much hope that it will still be run by Japanese people, and I hope that Japanese businessmen can buy it back, because the "sea view" of Beppu Bay in Oita Prefecture is priceless💪💪💪PS2:😭😭😭In late December 2023, the hotel reservation website Nakamoto Hotel has officially changed its name to "Grand Mercure Beppu Bay Resort & Spa".

I stayed one night in Beppu to take advantage of “African Safari”.This hotel is highly recommended if you are looking for a cost-effective hotel in Beppu rather than a ryokan.- Since I used a rental car, I liked that the parking lot was very convenient.- The staff in the lobby were very friendly and the service was good.- The room felt like an old hotel from the early 2000s (like the old hotel I felt on a school trip), but looking at other reviews, the room appears to be Case by Case. The room I used appears to have an old blanket, a slightly worn carpet, and a bed. However, the sea (Beppu Bay) seen from the room was really nice. The stars were clearly visible, and it was great since I went during Chuseok.- The morning breakfast was great.

Located along Beppu Bay, you can see the cityscapes of Beppu and Oita. You can stay overnight while enjoying the spectacular view. The rooms are stylish and clean as you would expect from a foreign company. The amenities are also made from bamboo, such as toothbrushes.I also feel that they care about the environment. In particular, the buffet has a wide variety and is very satisfying. The cafe bar lounge where you can enjoy coffee and alcohol while looking at the outside pool is also nice.I get the impression that there are quite a lot of foreign guests. This is partly because it is a little far from the center of Beppu. The large communal bath has a nice atmosphere, but this is a hot spring! ?Personally, I didn't understand the effectiveness. This is just my personal opinion.I think it's a good hotel overall.

I am very satisfied with the tatami room. However, the bathroom in the room is modular and very narrow and inconvenient to use. The spa is very satisfactory. I definitely recommend using it.
