Tatami is a wonderful culture. The open feel of the shared space is very relaxing. It's been two years since I quit smoking, but when I saw the smoking area in the garden, I wanted a cigarette lol

Excellent place, with great facilities and atmosphere. Super friendly and generouse owner that makes the place feel like a home. Definitely a place to come back to (and so I did). Highly recommended!

The owner is a really nice person and we are able to have international exchanges. The rooms and common spaces are clean, and there's a verandah, which is great 💐

Such a nice place to stay if you need a quiet break. I stayed in a private room for 1 night and really enjoyed my short stay there. The place is a beautiful traditional Japanese style house. Shotoro is a very kind and helpful host who is well travelled himself and knows what guests are hoping for. Everything you need for a comfortable stay and more. Thanks for having me :)

Very charming hostel, comfortable and close to the main attractions of Matsumoto. The manager Shotaro is exceptional and has created a superb atmosphere for both the staff and the travelers! I would definitely come back here during my next stay in Matsumoto :)

Guesthouse Azumaya has been the best guesthouse I've stayed in on my trip through Japan. The guesthouse is a very traditional Japanese building which perfectly combines traditional architecture with modern comfort. It has 10 beds in total, which creates a very home-like atmosphere. The place is perfect for both solo travelers as well as groups, because it's the ideal place to meet people and make new friends. The host Shotaro is super friendly, and introduced me to the other guests that were momentarily staying in his guest house. Immediately after entering, I felt at home and was welcomed by a very inviting and warm atmosphere. He gives the best recommendations, and provides his guests with warm tea and lovely authentic Japanese snacks. He is always available, and makes an utmost effort to improve the stay in Matsumoto for his guests. The facilities were more than sufficient; everything I needed for my stay was included. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash are provided, towels are rentable for only 100 yen and there is even a washing machine available for your laundry needs. Guesthouse Azumaya is centrally located and is just a 10-minute walk away from the famed Matsumoto Castle. I personally loved everything about my stay, and would recommend everyone to stay at Guesthouse Azumaya in Matsumoto.
