A ryokan located very close to Toshogu Shrine. The interior has a solemn quietness and a Showa era feel. There is an open-air bath to soothe the fatigue of sightseeing in Nikko.

Staying at Nikko Tokanso for several days was a highlight of my trip to Nikko with my parents. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The hotel was a bit dated but I loved it, lots of charm. …

We were warmly welcomed. You could choose between Western and Japanese breakfast. Dinner is always Japanese. You eat in a large dining room. The food was delicious! The ryokan itself seems to be a bit old. The cleanliness in the room was ok. The onsen was the best thing about the ryokan! Really relaxing! The reason Nikko Tokanso didn't get 5 stars is because the family bathroom, which can be reserved separately, is in an incredibly terrible condition! Mold, dirt, hair... :(Please renovate this room and lock it up until the time comes! The staff was friendly, as usual in Japan. :)Oh yes, the location is great!

・LocationI think the location is great, right near the entrance to Toshogu Shrine, and there is a famous Western restaurant called Meijikan next door.・Buildings and roomsAn old wooden building. When I walked in the hallway, I heard a creaking sound and it felt pretty worn out. The door to the room is veneer❓The old metal doorknob gives it an even more retro Showa feel. The room is a Japanese-style room with tatami mats. Overall, it was a little better than the guesthouse I stayed at during a training camp when I was a student. There is no resort feel or fashionable feel.・Large bathThe open-air bath is pretty good. The problem is the stone floor of the indoor bath. It's extremely slippery when wet. I accidentally slipped and fell. My left hand hurt my wrist joint.·mealIt's not luxurious, but it's edible. All the servers are Nepalese men and women. My Japanese is pretty good. One of the two Nepalese women I met was very friendly and I had a lot of fun talking with her about various things in both Japanese and English. When I checked in, this Nepalese female staff member guided me to my room. When I asked about the facility, he said that there was no open-air bath and that it was not a natural hot spring, but apparently he didn't understand Japanese and gave a random answer, and later apologized for making a mistake.I guess Japan can no longer run its business without using foreigners like this. It feels like good old Japan is being lost, and it's sad and sad.

The taste of the food is good, a set meal for both dinner and breakfast. There is still some dust in some spots. Overall, it is considered good. But if anyone doesn't like communal showers, I don't recommend it.
