I quickly planned and made a reservation for a trip to Otaru. It was 5000 yen per night including breakfast. Amid soaring hotel prices, you can get a private room for the price of a guesthouse. In addition, towels and pajamas are well prepared, and it is comparable to a normal hotel. Anyway, the owner kept it clean and I felt comfortable. The breakfast was also really delicious and they even served tea. Although there is a rule that food and drink are not allowed in the room, this is a place I would like to visit again.

I stayed for two consecutive nights with breakfast in September. If you are going by car, there are no signboards, so Google Maps is your best bet. Just before the final narrow uphill climb, I called the inn to confirm whether it was okay to stay here, and the owner went out of his way to meet me outside. The owner has kept the inn so clean that not a single speck of dust has fallen on it, and the rooms are all white, and you can feel the owner's sense of style in the decoration (the room is on a hill, so you can see Otaru Bay from the room). Therefore, as others have pointed out, there are various rules that the owner is particular about (detailed explanations are provided in advance), so it is not suitable for people who are not good at such things. Also, the walls are not very thick, so you need to be considerate of others, especially at night.Breakfast was Japanese and Western style every other day, but it was so well-balanced and voluminous that it could hardly be called a light meal. Of course it's delicious. It takes more than 20 minutes to walk to the canal and Otaru Station, but it's a cityscape that makes you want to take a stroll, and the return trip is about one bus per hour from the city center to the bus stop near the hotel, so you don't have to worry about drinking. But it's safe.I had already made reservations for both dinners on my own this time (there are many inexpensive and delicious restaurants in Otaru), but next time I would like to hear the opinions of the knowledgeable owners.

This is a small and cozy B&B, located on a higher ground with good views. It provides four single rooms. The price is 5,000 per day (including breakfast) in September 2024, and only accepts cash. There are often -500 or -1,000 discount coupons when there are events in Jalan. This time I only had to pay 4,000 after -1,000.The room is simple and clean, quite adequate for living, and the breakfast is very rich. The owner of the B&B is hospitable but has relatively many rules. For example, there are no indoor slippers, you cannot go barefoot and you must wear socks (the owner will provide new socks), you must use the toilet and washroom on the first floor after lights out, etc.And since you often have to communicate with the boss, it is recommended that you have some basic Japanese skills. My Japanese is barely usable but not good enough. Unfortunately, I cannot talk in depth with the boss or other passengers. The bathroom is a common standard overall bathroom, but in principle only showers can be used. You can use the washing machine for free but you cannot use the drying function. You need to dry it yourself in the room. For this price, it can be said to be perfect overall, but there are two things to note:1. The other side of being able to climb up and see far is that it is located in a relatively remote and high place. If you don’t have transportation, you should consider calling a taxi. It may be a more reasonable choice. If you drive by yourself, the slope into the parking lot is steep, so it is recommended to rent a 4WD model in winter.2. There is no air conditioning in the room (there is one in the living room on the first floor). The temperature feels comfortable to me at night in September, but it may be more careful in summer.

This is an inn where you can enjoy the best part of being a guest house. Interacting with the owner and guests in the living room on the first floor will be a fond memory of your trip. The rooms on the second floor are private and clean, so you can relax from the fatigue of your trip while ensuring privacy. Ishiyama-cho in Otaru, the town of hills, has a nostalgic streetscape, and we recommend a pleasant walk where you can feel the refreshing morning of Otaru. Be sure to try the owner's homemade breakfast.

I'm not sure, but I received a reply from the owner. It's a mystery.I don't want anything to do with it, so I'll delete it soon.

It's a newly built, beautiful building. It's like staying at a friend's house, so it's best to understand that it's not a hotel-like accommodation.

Otaru Hiyori is located in a residential community far away from the busy area. The surrounding is very quiet and you can have a good rest. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the canal. In addition to avoiding the crowds of tourists, the scenery along the way is also very suitable for enjoying when traveling alone. The shop owner is a very enthusiastic middle-aged man with a sense of life. The environment at home is spotless and full of life, and both the decorations and furniture are very tasteful.During the two days he stayed here, he treated every guest as if he were one of his own family. Whether it was making tea and patiently introducing local hidden attractions, or enthusiastically introducing Otaru during the snow scene, you can feel it. The owner's love for Otaru and his attentiveness to his guests. From the introduction of the North Canal and Shopping Street on the first day to the suggestions of Suitengu Shrine and the old Otaru branch of the Bank of Japan on the second day, after actually walking there, you can savor the history and scenery of Otaru and enjoy traveling alone. The feeling of comfort at the time. After knowing that I was going to Hakodate, I also introduced a hidden route from the Foreign Cemetery to Cape Hatai. The sea view along the way was really beautiful after actually walking there! Thank you very much!Having said so many advantages, the shortcomings seem to be outweighed. The journey from Otaru Station to the accommodation requires a 20-degree climb up and down a 200-meter slope. With my suitcase in hand, I still found it a bit strenuous after walking for 20 minutes on the 30-minute planned journey. I sincerely recommend that if you want to stay there, the 790 yen taxi ride is well worth it.Otaru Hiyori is a great place to recommend when traveling alone. It’s a good place to calm down and appreciate the surrounding scenery and Shen Dian’s mood. Next time I visit again, I will go to the Cape Observation Deck recommended by the owner! Thank you to the shop owner for your warm treatment. Unknowingly, it also cured part of the low mood at that time! Thanks again!ありがとうございました!
