I used it as a travel present for my girlfriend's birthday!A hideaway-like inn that I’ve been curious about for a while…The food is plentiful and you can drink as much as you like😎Since it was a weekday, I was able to use the large public bath for private use and had a relaxing time.Since it is nearby, I would like to use it again on another occasion 👀

Thank you for staying with us for consecutive nights during the rainy season in 2024.Currently, the entire Kawaraya Onsen has been moved to higher ground due to the construction of Yatsuba Dam.The current Yamakikan is a new building that either relocated an old building or reused old building materials, making it a very comfortable stay. The facility is thoroughly cleaned and has a beautiful garden. The library's study is like a mini-library, with a wide range of books ranging from manga to local materials to literary philosophy.Unlike the dark and unique atmosphere that is often found in old inns deep in the mountains, the lounge and hallways are made with old items, but bright sunlight shines through the glass windows all over the place.Meals include free drinks, including alcohol. Feel free to sample small quantities of sake as you like. I was greedy and received 6 types.Although water is added to the bath, the indoor bath gradually warms up with the hot spring water flowing directly from the source.I think this is a good inn for those who want to spend a relaxing time in a quiet environment.By the way, you can get there in just under 3 and a half to 4 hours from Tokyo without using the limited express.P.S.: The room I stayed in had a raised folding space, but I felt that if there was a small table, I could read a book or work on my computer in the tatami space.

The old folk house style building was very nice. The temperature of the bath was just right, and even though I didn't go to the private bath, there were no people around. The food was delicious, but the portions were too small for me, so I had to eat leftovers from my family to fill myself up. If this is improved, it will be 5 stars.

I stayed there before the Yamba Dam was completed (before the coronavirus), and this was my first return visit after Category 5. I went there looking forward to it being reopened after it was closed. To be honest, the quality of the service has deteriorated considerably. Due to personnel cost cuts, everything was included (bathing tax, breakfast and dinner drink charges, private bath, coffee/tea, etc.).The quality of the meal deteriorated considerably due to the unlimited drinks during the meal. I was disappointed that the meal contents showed that they were cutting costs. There were 7 appetizers, kamado dishes, sashimi, yam rice, and udon noodles. If there are no creative options such as freshly grilled fish or fried foods, the appeal will be drastically reduced. To be honest, this kind of food is too expensive for this accommodation price.I know that the atmosphere was good and the food was good before the coronavirus, so I really felt the difference.Since there are only a few rooms, I think it would be better to pay for drinks and only be charged for what you drink. Otherwise, customers who don't drink alcohol will feel like they're missing out. However, for dinner, we would like to have kaiseki with one item at a time. This dish is quite a disappointment.Compared to last time, if the food remains the same, I won't come back again. The atmosphere of the inn and the rooms are spacious and easy to use, so I would like to see improvements in the food content, which is one of the attractions of the inn.

The atmosphere was very nice in the style of an old folk house, and there were only a few rooms, so it was quiet and relaxing, which was very nice.

This is a beautiful inn that looks like an old folk house. There are 8 rooms in total and you can choose from a variety of room types. The restaurant is an old folk house relocated.Everything is clean, and the hot springs are spacious enough with open-air baths and private baths.Dinner was a bit disappointing as the head chef had changed and the dishes had changed. The meal ended with 7 appetizers, 3 sashimi (yuba, konnyaku, red masu), kayaku rice, okiri udon, steamed barley pork and vegetables, and dessert. It was a free drink, so it might be a good deal for people who drink a lot, but it's expensive for two people and three glasses of beer.I had high expectations because I saw on the website that the food was carefully prepared and the reviews were good, but the taste, quality, and quantity were all disappointing. I got tired of the same seasoning, so I wanted to change the flavor of the steamed dishes by adding only ponzu sauce and two different sauces. For breakfast, you could choose red rice with chestnuts or white rice. The number of items was ok.Stayed in a one-room type room. It's spacious enough for two people. This is a type of tatami mat that is raised one level and is about 7 tatami mats in size, with a futon laid out on top. The tatami bed would have been nice here, but the steps in the room made it inconvenient to move around. It would be better to lay out the futon in advance or choose it when making the reservation. Even though it's an experiential experience, it feels like you're being brought back to your daily life on a futon even though you want to relax and take your time in an extraordinary experience. It's fine for experiential learning for elementary school students, but for the elderly...I read other people's reviews that they'll do it if you tell them, but it's hard to ask for help later. Our stay was the day before a holiday, which was not a Saturday, but we were a group. After returning home, I learned about how difficult the coronavirus pandemic was and about crowdfunding on the internet. Small inns may be difficult because the proprietress or host has to work hard, but it's a good inn with plenty of facilities, so dinner can be a bit more creative. If dinner remains the same, we will ask you for a breakfast only plan. There are a lot of cherry blossoms planted on the shore of Yamba Dam Lake, and I'm looking forward to seeing them in a few years. Kawaraya Onsen also has a long history and is a good hot spring, so I hope it continues for a long time.
