I stayed at Chohachi no Ma for a pilgrimage to Tsuge Yoshiharu's sacred place. Since it was the off-peak season, I was the only guest, so I enjoyed being private. It's a shame that Mr. Itamae passed away last year, so we were only able to stay overnight without meals, but the feeling of being able to sleep surrounded by cultural assets that could be displayed in a museum was enough to fill our stomachs. is.It's nice to have a bath with free-flowing hot spring water available 24 hours a day.We were also able to see valuable materials such as the New Year's card that the landlady received from Yoshiharu Tsuge and the magazine Garo from the time when ``Chohachi no Yado'' was published. When we parted ways, I was even given a copy of the pamphlet that appeared in "Chohachi no Yado." You cherish.

My long-cherished wish came true and I finally stayed here. The ``Chohachi no Ma'' in this inn is a building that appears to have been renovated from a clay storehouse with sea cucumber walls. The second floor is a living room and bedroom, and the first floor is a dining room and washroom. You have to go up and down steep stairs to do anything, so it can be said that the barrier-free level is at a minimum, but you can thoroughly enjoy Irie Chohachi's troweled paintings from the windows on the second floor. This is a privilege only for those who stay in the "Chohachi-no-ma" room.Trowel-e is a relief created using a trowel with plaster, and is also colored with pigments. Chohachi Irie was a plasterer, painter, and sculptor from Matsuzaki. Chohachi's trowel-e has an outstanding charm that is unique because of its expressive power of moving freely between two and three dimensions. Both the hot springs and the food are average, but since I stayed alone in a one-of-a-kind room with a capacity of 4 people and evening and breakfast included, it cost less than 20K, so I can't really complain. This is where your tastes differ, but the sweet egg rolls for breakfast were delicious. It doesn't really matter if there's no Wi-Fi or a refrigerator. By the way, the toilet is equipped with a washing machine. When you push open the sliding door, which was probably made in an era when only pump-type toilets were available, a toilet bowl with a washing machine appears. Although it feels strange, it is convenient. In the morning, I found something rustling in front of the washroom, but it wasn't a cockroach but a crab. It wouldn't be funny if it were a centipede or something, so I thought it would be a good idea to sleep on the second floor, even if it was a little inconvenient. In addition to the Chohachi Room, there is a statue of Daruma Daishi in the common room where coffee is served in the morning, and a statue of Genbu in front of the counter, both of which are said to have been created by Chohachi. Even as a mere hot spring inn, the level of satisfaction for the price is above average, and it has a charm that is not found in ordinary hot spring inns, so I would rate it 5 stars on the condition that you stay at ``Chohachi no Ma''.

A shop that appeared in Yoshiharu Tsuge's work. There was a huge amount of dishes made with fresh seafood from Nishiizu. The hostess was also a very nice person, and we listened to her talk. If you're a boxwood fan, check it out!

This inn was drawn as a model for Yoshiharu Tsuge's ``Chohachi no Inn''. The guest rooms, which were completely renovated from former merchant warehouses, are sure to please even those who aren't boxwood fans. You can see the trowel paintings by Chohachi, Matsuzaki Town's genius trowel artist, from the storehouse window. The baths are small but give the impression of a warm atmosphere, and I visited in early summer, and the food was excellent, using plenty of local fish.New Year's cards from Tsuge Sensei himself are also carefully displayed in the guest room, making it a place fans should visit at least once. Above all, the memories of the proprietress, who served as a model, with her teacher were very valuable.Maybe it's because Nishi-Izu is an area with no railways, but the calm cityscape and sea breeze wash your soul. It's definitely a place I'd like to visit again.

This is a historical inn located in the center of Matsuzaki Town. New Year's cards from Yatsuge Yoshiharu, a trowel painting from Irie Chohachi, and colored papers of famous people are casually displayed.Although the building is old, the toilets and washrooms are shared, but even though it is old, improvements have been made in small areas, such as the installation of heated toilet seats in the toilets. The bath is a hot spring and is not fancy, but it is a good bath that warms up well. Both dinner and breakfast were quite filling.I would like to stay there again if I have the chance.
