My friends and I fully enjoyed our stay/rest in Sen Retreat Takahara during our hike in the Kumano Kodo. The house is beautiful, well-designed, clean, spacious, and stocked with plenty of food/drinks/snacks for our consumption.

The location is beautiful and the decor clean, Minimalist and Zen. But the utterly impersonal and non-existent service is a real downer. It's basically operated by remote control from a bunker somewhere else and if your phone signal is not working you'd never be able to check in in the first place. You check in in a telephone booth away from the building, which in rain or wind I think would be extremely unpleasant and is confusingly time consuming. There's no explanation about meals and only one micro milk container enough for 1 cup of tea for your whole stay which is totally insulting (other guests donated 2 more which meant we could have 2 cups each over a whole day): just not good enough at these prices.Breakfast is described as bread, fruit and plenty of jam...we only found rolls and nothing else. There has been no response to my online query for over 12 hours so we feel ripped off and confused.Showers are great. There is a sauna but it was locked and no explanation about how, or if we're allowed to use it.If only someone were here to greet you and explain how it all works it could be lovely. As it is, it was all rather cold and unpleasant. Just a box to stay in, not to be enjoyed.

The sauna has an open design where you can enjoy nature to the fullest, and you can make your own fire and enjoy the aroma of wood. A sea of clouds full of stars. It was great.

I stayed here for a business training camp with fellow business owners. Kumano Kodo walk during the day, study session in the living room in the evening, sauna and starry sky at night.I had a great time with my friends!Although the service is unmanned, the manual for how to use the equipment was easy to understand, so I didn't have any problems!

The kids were very happy with the whole house rental, and the sauna was great! There was no problem with starting the fire, and I used it three times after checking in, in the evening, and the next morning. I would like them to maintain the current service in terms of facilities and food. The mountain path to the inn? It was narrower than I expected and I was scared to see an oncoming car💦

It was used as a workshop.I knew that Kumano Kodo was a World Heritage Site, but it was my first time visiting and I didn't really understand it. There was no previous information or area, but the air was clear, the stars were beautiful, there was no noise, and it was a really comfortable place! The room had great hospitality and the sauna was great! ! ! I would like to visit again.
