Manipulative and toxic lodge owners. They overwork their staff members and occasionally degrade and scream at them. The owners are super micromanaging, are always in the right and cannot take criticism. Of course in front of the customers they won’t show that, they are very two-faced. The staff is expected to work overtime every day, a minimum ten hour workday is the norm. Staff has to work under extreme pressure, sometimes even driving through snowstorms on the mountains for bread deliveries. The owners are already known in that area for treating their staff very badly. For my own consciousness, I would not book this accommodation, there are other wonderful and international lodges in Madarao.

My family of four, including a 12-year-old (in the midst of rebellious puberty) and a 4-year-old, stayed here over the summer.Annie and Dutchie are very kind and friendly. The rooms are clean and the toilets and showers are modern and clean. Small insects are everywhere, and that's normal. The breakfast is wonderful and the bread is very delicious. My daughter, who only eats white bread, enjoyed it! Surprised.Dutchy is a picky eater, but I would like to thank him for listening to what he could eat and trying to offer it to him.The vegetable-based meals are very delicious and I would like to come back here again.I'd like to take him overseas someday, so I thought it would be interesting, so I came here this time.I would like to come here again with my children because I can have the experience of coming to a homestay.Highly recommended for Japanese parents who want to experience English and life overseas. In winter, I would like to bring my children to learn how to ski.I want to enjoy the food, so I would like to visit here slowly even as a couple.Thank you Annie and Dutch!

We had a fantastic time. Annie and Dutchie were absolutely amazing from start to finish. So friendly welcoming and professional. We felt part of the family staying there. The lodge has been recently renovated and is beautiful. Dutchie is an amazing chef the food was fantastic. They are instructors and guides as well. We didn’t get a chance to explore the mountains with them this year, but will do next year. Thanks for an amazing time guys and all the local knowledge. See you next time. Dan & Marina.

Annie and Merijn opened their lodge in Japan to offer Accomodation, Amazing food, Ski and Snowboard lessons just before the pandemic 😷Since then, they’ve created an amazing lodge on the mountains of Madarao-just 1.5 hours on the smooth bullet train from Tokyo 🚝🏔️❄️They offer lessons from complete beginners (one of the kids in the lodge was just 7!) to those who have been on the snow all their life. You can rent all the gear there too 🎿⛷️🏂One of the highlights was a 6 course tasting menu of local vegetarian dishes, paired with 6 local wines from the region. We did this with all the the other guests staying at the lodge, travelling from as far a field as New Zealand 🇳🇿 the USA 🇺🇸 and Australia 🇦🇺Breakfast is huge and tasty! The bread is all baked in house and delivered to local lodges or local Japanese villages around the mountain.Definitely recommend for a brilliant stay on your trip to Japan!

We had a great time in the snowy Japanese mountains, run by the friendly Dutch couple Annemiek and Merijn. Enjoyed the delicious 6 course diner and freshly baked bread every day. Every day Annemiek gave us a private sky tour in a different ski resort which also included dipping into a traditional onsen ( thermal bath) at the end of the day. Lovely lodge, great service and nice owners and staff, definitely a place to recommend.
