I would not recommend this place. A self-proclaimed "hostel" which is in real a dilapidated house with a ill-tempered grumpiness who does not really communicates well in English and even worse would harass people. This service level like this could only exist because foreign people have faith in Japan the country and let the guard down. Anyway this accommodation or whatever would let you know well how not every single corner of Japan is good clean and trustworthy. The Japanese government should have a good inspection on this place.

I'm writing this review because I cannot express how satisfied I was with my stay here.A friend and I had set plans to travel to Japan during the New Years and decided on this spot. My friend was attracted by the decorations and unique style of the place. We agreed and decided to book. After landing and going through the airport and whatever else, we had made our way over to the hostel and checked in within the time window. We were greeted, shown to our rooms and set our bags aside to grab some food. Quick and efficient process within the check-in window. We stayed for ~2 weeks (and ended up extending our stay here from what we initially planned as we were so satisfied with the company, location and general atmosphere) and each time was lovely. The other hostel members were great to talk to as well as Katō-san himself.Besides the great conversation we had with Katō-san, he was an amazing source of information for great local spots to check out and possible things to do. He gave us the best recommendation for a shrine visitation on New Years and it resulted in a completely unforgettable experience. He frequently shared drinks and occasionally made food as well which was a really nice surprise! Great person to talk to for some conversation, great person with recommendations around the area and an all-around accommodating host.I'm surprised this hostel is at a 3.8 (at the time of the review) as my experience here was FAR beyond that. It's a complete disservice to the quality of the hostel. I fully intend to book at Katō-san's place the next time I go to Tokyo.

Very Good. Hosted by a great storyteller, carpenter, biker and Jason fan ;o) ...A cosy, clean place, close to Haneda airport. It's far from Tokyo city centre. Showers on a different floor from dorm-room

It was very good. The story of the owner is very interesting. I also really enjoyed experiencing the handmade shower room (located outside). However, it's a little far from the station on foot, so you can get right there by bus.

Loved my stay! Amazing value for price. Great bus and train connections to the city. The owner Katou is very friend and accommodating. His place is clean and organized and he is always quick to respond to messages. Beds are comfy. He is very helpful and it was an absolute pleasure to stay here. Highly recommend.

A quirky gem of a guesthouse. A beautifully designed place with lots of character. Katou, had lots of insights on places to go and eat and was really responsive on emails before we arrived. Thanks for our stay and see you in a couple of weeks.

The current rating (3.7) really doesn’t realistically reflect the quality of the stay (I’d say at least a 4.7 if not a 5).The owner is super friendly and very accommodating, as long as you keep to the check-in times which are very clearly stated on booking/airbnb etc. It’s unfair to give 1-star ratings cause you can’t read.Besides that the place is very clean, has the nicest bedding (seriously SO comfy), funky interior and a nice vibe. Free coffee in the morning, lots of great tips from the owner and easy access to public transport complete the experience. Thanks so much, we will be back!

Save your money & yourself from this horrible owner. This hostel has very strict check in rules. If you are bit late due to the long queues at the airport, you will be denied entry. In fact, I have no problem with it as it is their policy. But the owner is very rude, aggressive & speak very little or no English. So, it is very difficult to communicate with him. I believe he should have basic English to be able to communicate with guests as he is running a hostel for international guests be bit more respectful like other Japanese.

Very strict ‘no late check-in allowed’. My plane was late and I arrived after check-in time (10pm). I was refused entry by a current guest staying there due to the sign on the door strictly prohibiting booked guests from entering after checkin hours. I was left on the street after 24 hours of travel in the cold at 11:45pm at night. Would not recommend if you have a late plane, you will not be allowed in even if you’ve pre-paid and you will not be refunded.
