Shiro Apartments Nozawa

Excellent place to stay in Nozawa! We were a group of 5 adults and the location was perfect to easily access the gondola. The apartments are beautifully done and very new. Clean, modern and a great staff to help with any issue. Plenty of space for us to spread out. Excellent onsen inside Shiro. And another onsen directly across the street. Shiro is a short walk to many restaurants and bars with a cafe downstairs for a quick dinner or coffee. Will return for my next ski week in Nozawa!

I stayed there last year as well, and it's a vacation rental style where you can request cleaning, linen, and towel changes for a fee during your stay.However, the rooms are kept clean and I think the caretaker and his wife take great care in cleaning them.We recommend a room with a hot spring bath, where you can ski during the day and soak in the hot spring as much as you like at night.Is this what paradise is all about? Its our third time back at Nozawa and Shiro and our second time this year. What we have experienced is not only a one time bad trip but a constantly worsening situation after constructive feedbacks given and within the same season giving from our side another chance to the place hoping that it is able to improve and correct its faults including an unprofessional family running it with the husband walking around, the wife cleaning the rooms and checking you in and the son (Neo) who is supposed to be the “on-site” Manager is never there (we have never even seen him in all our stays) but his new pizza restaurant’s flyers are all over the entrance and rooms. The mornings you have no hot water in the rooms (same this time), when you request queen beds and get confirmed you are given singles and so on and on and on…Well in a nutshell the place is gettinghh worse.The receptionist / house cleaning lady who raised her tone and has been extremely unwelcoming the last time already (without exaggeration: she is HOSTILE!) was once again running the “show” around and after her husband let our group enter to our room arriving, without surprise being rude; she buzzed at our door few minutes after we got in, asking for cash payment “give cash” without even saying “hi” or “welcome back”. Of course as always no one helps you with the luggages, explaining the room commodities, doing a proper check-in.Just before leaving for skiing and setting payment she told us that the check out is at 10am on Sunday (and we are completely fine with that) however she had to highlight on the fact that she already made a special effort to give us the early check in that “no one else gets”. This made us feel like we were guests of guests or worse staying for free. A hint: its pandemic and the town is struggling.In what hotel customers get such an awful service and treatment? We are staying with a Japanese friend and she felt extremely offended by the lady so I am sorry its not a language or cultural issue as we thought the last time.If this wasn’t enough, in the afternoon while having a drink at the cafe, the onsen rooftop together with meters of uncleaned snow fell off just next to the glass window behind us… exactly to the same spot where you enter the building.This might sound incredible but it really happened! It could have killed someone, luckily it didn’t but definitely scared us off! So that we were afraid of getting in and out the building plus throughout our stay hearing all kinds of strange noises from the roof indicating that the wooden house might collapse under the uncleaned snow?!After that happened they called someone to clean the other onsen roof. At the moment the cafe entrance is closed off and the cafe will be closed for the time being. May we ask who’s in charge of the maintenance of the building? That clearly didn’t happen in a while. This is the ONLY hotel / restaurant / cafe in Nozawa where the snow is not cleaned away not only at the roof but also at the entrance to the street. Every day guests have to mount an icy snow hill up and down just to be able to get into the building. Also this is the most expensive accommodation around. Just FYI.I’m sorry for the business that the owner has here and completely get it that they cannot enter Japan easily to check but I cannot not share this bad experience. A very bad management which after feedbacks given gets even worst like the Japanese family who is employed here would want to ruin the business and make sure nobody returns to their town anymore.UPDATE: thank you for the answer from Shiro, however quite misleading. It is NOT the first feedback as we have given it in January as well as last weekend happy to copy paste all the email communication. Also could you please acknowledge the issues you have with the resident staff and the service in general instead of talking about the snow? I “wish” the falling roof and the snow hill blocking the entrance would have been the only problems here and you know very well they were not.

2nd time staying here and it just doesn’t feel good.Surprised about the positive reviews out there, I guess are fake?What a disturbing experience, second time in a row.bad management both from who’s handling it oversees and locally, where a local family supposed be looking after the hotel is clearly never around.The old man doesn’t even clean the hotel entrance that got extremely icy and dangerous. The lady is beyond rude, doesn’t even welcome (because she’s not around)Once we got to the room she buzzed and asked for cash out of the blue!
