For a “self-service economy” you are served really quickly here. Despite the small number of guests, the staff seemed completely overworked. Waiting at the counter for 5 minutes, you were ignored. It should come as no surprise that tourists prefer to eat out in the neighboring Czech Republic. Clearly our neighbors have the right business model. The beautiful location of the building doesn't help make up for the poor service.

The food tastes similar to that from the supermarket. Fries and cheese taste like they've been freshly thawed, but it's far too expensive. Price-performance ratio doesn't fit at all. An apple spritzer (most likely from the supermarket) costs around €5 which could buy a whole 6 pack when shopping. And what's that weird comment about vegans (see photo) on the menu? Something like that shows a lack of openness and tolerance.I have no warm words for the food or the price, so I advise everyone not to visit this establishment. Absolutely not worth it.

I can't understand the bad reviews. Everything was fine with us.The waiter wasn't unfriendly at all, he's just his own breed with a lot of sayings that are even more insulting. Just his own kind.Our food tasted very good. Ok, a little higher in price, but still within reason as the portion was also a reasonable size.The ambience is really very rustic, but for me that's exactly what makes the building so charming.I can only recommend the visit!

Nice view, definitely recommended as a destination for hikers, but quite expensive for mediocre food. Sanitary facilities need renovation.

Hochwaldbaude...we were able to be guests in this beautiful hut for 5 great days and enjoy a great "hut feeling", great gastronomy, great atmosphere, wonderful evenings, what could be nicer. Lots of beautiful hikes around the Hochwald and despite the bad weather...we're looking forward to next year and if the weather is still right...there's no superlative how you can describe this experience...Thank you very much for your hospitality Dear Torsten and team...we would love to come back...Best regards from Radeberg/Großerkmannsdorf from Antje, Uschi, Thomas and Micha

Construction site in the area around the building for what feels like 1oo years. Food mediocre for my taste, but prices like in a 4 star hotel. And you can only feel sorry for the poor German Shepherd who is cooped up under the table all day. Poor animal...

Admittedly, we arrived at the lodge a little later in the evening and asked if we could stop in for dinner. The innkeeper or a gentleman standing at the counter seemed to be so irritated by our request that he apparently had to think about whether he wanted to talk to us at all. After we were examined extensively from top to bottom (maybe it was because of our shirts?), it was clear to us that there was nothing for us here. Irritating for us because we would have even paid. So if you are not from the area, you should think carefully about whether you want to accept being viewed in a derogatory or disruptive manner as a stranger.
