A bit away from the main road, so it's in a quiet location. The room is clean and enough for three people. Breakfast from the buffet is sufficient, but the time of one hour is a bit short. You should also assume that it is not a 5 star hotel. The small family business makes almost everything possible, you just have to talk once and not always complain. There is a lot to do in the middle of the Thuringian Forest. The short vacation was perfect for us.

We were recently traveling in a larger group and were warmly welcomed at different arrival times. There was nothing to complain about and our wishes were always taken into account. Good starting point for hikes, a car is required for other activities. We would like to thank the hotel operator and his friendly team again. Price/performance very good for this hotel category.

Unfortunately, the beautiful pictures on the internet are misleading. The hotel itself certainly had its best times in the 90s, which isn't a bad thing in itself, but the rooms were totally shabby and very dirty, with spiders and their nests everywhere. The bathroom also leaves a lot of room for improvement. I don't even want to talk about the beds. The outdoor areas are run down and unkempt. However, the prices are at the level of very good hotels. The staff was always friendly and tried hard, but could not make up for the poor general condition of the facility. In any case, we will never go there again, which is a shame because the region has potential.

For everyone who chooses a hotel based on the reviews, the conclusion is: This hostel is only recommended for a short trip without higher demands. As soon as we arrived we had an uneasy feeling. Past rotting car wrecks, dilapidated houses, industrial wastelands and barely legible traffic signs, the navigation system literally sent us into the forest along increasingly narrow streets. To be expected from a forest hotel. But we didn't expect it to be so off the charts. The first shock when arriving at the hotel. The first impression: We were linked, the hotel is no longer in operation. The guest parking lot was almost empty, the weeds were meters high on the hotel grounds, the chairs were up on the terrace... and not a soul in sight, the property gave the impression of a lost place rather than a thriving accommodation. Undaunted, we made our way to the reception, past empty flower boxes, faded brewery advertising and a display case with a piece of bark lying (?) instead of a menu over rocking pavement slabs. And...it was actually open, but deserted. The Easter decorations in the lobby (in July!) were surprising, but at the first ring of the call bell a nice young woman appeared and handed us our room keys along with relevant information. With our suitcases we walked over musty-smelling, obviously ancient floor coverings, past completely dusty display cases with local products, into an astonishingly bright, spacious and practically furnished room. But what may have motivated the owner to leave the decades-old carpet in when furnishing it with new, pretty furniture will probably remain his secret. At least you could tell where the old furniture must have been based on the color differences and countless stains of questionable origin. Still optimistic, we set about exploring the immediate surroundings. And that was the worst case scenario. The holiday resort described turned out to be a collection of bungalows in decay, probably from the days of a GDR holiday home. Piles of bulky waste and building rubble everywhere. A few of the buildings were painted in cheerful colors, but didn't really seem inviting. The advertised outdoor pool...closed. Our great hope now rested on at least a sumptuous breakfast. The short breakfast time from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. was a challenge for us as holiday sleepers and forced us to set the alarm clock. Not entirely without reason, because at 8.30 a.m. the breakfast buffet consisted mainly of empty plates. The hope that these would be replenished soon was deceptive. The offer could at best be described as basic care. A kind of baked roll, a jam and, if you came early enough, a kind of sliced cheese and the same sausage. At least...the coffee was good! Dinner was just as good. The day before you could choose from 3 dishes. These were offered as a menu (starter soup + dessert) to the main course for a surprisingly low additional charge of 1-3 euros. All of this was available at a low price (€17.50) and it was tasty and plentiful. What should definitely be excluded from criticism is the very young staff in the restaurant and at the reception. Extremely friendly, attentive and hardworking...big praise and thank you.By the way: Even in the furthest Thuringian valley, 12 analogue television programs, 5 of which were more like talkies because of the miserable picture, are no longer up to date. The flat-screen TV can no longer do this either.

The place itself is beautiful in and of itself. The hotel and especially the rooms, on the other hand, are run down, unkempt or dirty and unfortunately full of spiders and their nests. The bathroom was inhabited by a large number of silverfish, the wall next to the bed was covered in brown stains  and our actual double bed consisted of two single fixed beds that could not be moved and were completely unsuitable for a couple. It should also be noted that the smell in some rooms was unparalleled and the rooms were not even cleaned. Now to the hospitality and the staff. The breakfast buffet was relatively sober and if you were unlucky, some guests went away empty-handed. Unfortunately there was only the option to eat from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. At dinner you had the choice between two dishes, which you had to specify a day in advance. One would think that the kitchen was set up exactly for what and how much to cook; However, one person in our group also came away empty-handed because the pasta had already been used up. Instead, without comment, there was a plate of Bolognese with about six pasta and, after the grievance was brought to attention, a plate of mashed potatoes. The main courses tasted ok, as did the starters. You could have missed the desserts too. The staff tried hard but was at least as overwhelmed and understaffed. Some waitresses took a long time to arrive or didn't even want to serve us. But they were very punctual and told us that they wanted to close five minutes early. By the way, the Aperol ran out on the second day and wasn't refilled. The replenishment of consumables was generally not good, as not even the paper in the toilets was replenished during the entire stay. But the bowling alley and the escape room are to be praised; However, we were charged an incredible four times for the bowling alley. Anyone who doesn't check the bill here is probably being ripped off. It's better to leave your own shoes on when going bowling, as the shoes provided are also completely worn out and unhygienic. Conclusion: Pretty much the only positive thing is that you were able to form a certain community with the other angry hotel guests during your stay, as we weren't the only ones who were absolutely dissatisfied with the circumstances. Some guests left the next day without paying. Definitely not recommended!A small addendum, since the owner probably no longer knows his own premises:- Picture 1 door in the stairwell- Picture 2 bathroom- Picture 3 living/sleeping area- Picture 4 Living/sleeping area- Picture 5 Living/sleeping area and right next to the bed!All the beautiful stains and unhygienic conditions can be discovered in room number 3. The fact that the defects mentioned and the constructive criticism were not taken seriously shows even more that the owner has no interest in improving!Another reason to stay away from this “hotel”!(Gender Male)

The Geiersthal is an eye's width in the direction of the Lichte dam. With so much nature (we also saw fire salamanders!) your heart opens. What is of course particularly negative for visitors is the very, very poor transport connections!!

The hotel is very well located on the edge of the forest and the staff is friendly, but that's the only thing. Shower with a lot of mold, radiator rusted, cleanliness generally not good. …
