Rude, combative host who thinks he can enter private guest accommodation whenever he pleases!I recently had the absolute displeasure of staying at this accommodation having paid €354.00 to book it for 6 nights on a last-minute “deal” with Booking.com.On arrival, I discovered that many of the advertised items related to the kitchen/kitchenette were missing and there was no hot water connection to the kitchen sink.I also realised that both the main entrance and the bathroom (just inside the main entrance) of the accommodation could not be locked.Additionally, I observed that the accommodation was dirty & appeared under construction in several areas.There was what appeared to be the remnants of decorating - paint, plaster etc covering almost everything.When I contacted the host, he came to see me & was immediately combative, telling me “this is not a kitchen for cooking in, if you want a kitchen you must pay more”, “you don’t need to lock anything it’s just me here”, “you’re a troublemaker, nobody ever complained about these things before” etc. (There are plenty of negative reviews, some many years old complaining about these exact issues once you dig a little at Booking.com)I immediately contacted Booking.com customer service and was assured that if a resolution could not be found to the “not-as-described-accommodation” I would be given a full-refund.The following day I had many appointments in the local area.When I arrived back at the accommodation late afternoon, I realised that things in the only area I could lock, where I had set up a home office & had sensitive documents, expensive equipment such as laptops etc, had been disturbed.The host of this accommodation had let himself in to the locked, private area without my consent or knowledge!I contacted Booking.com & told them I would be leaving the accommodation immediately.I then noticed the host outside and went to speak to him, making sure I recorded the conversation.When I confronted him about letting himself into the accommodation, he was again immediately combative and told me he would call the Police if I continued to harass him.I therefore called the Police myself, because I wanted a report confirming that I had left the accommodation in perfect condition, that it could not be locked for the most part and that the host had entered the property in my absence without my knowledge (he admitted his behaviour to the Police).The Police were very helpful, all the information was recorded & a Police report was compiled.After leaving the property I naturally left a negative review on Booking.com.Almost as soon as it was published, the host started threatening me via text message with legal action for defamation & continued to harass me by sending positive reviews that he has screen grabbed off the Internet.Taking the matter even further he filed a claim with Booking.com, telling them I never stayed at the accommodation, so they would remove my review.I’ve updated the Police regarding the post-review harassment & the next step will be the Small Claims Court.Naturally the host refuses to provide a refund & Booking.com can’t/won’t do anything as they are “just a facilitator between host & guest”.Read the negative reviews, look at the pictures & choose wisely.Update post hosts perfectly damming response; I didn't book the wrong apartment, I booked exactly what I needed based on the Booking.com listing. Unfortunately the description does not match reality - that is 100% the hosts responsibility & has still not been updated to address the discrepancies weeks later. Good to see clarification that renovations had just been undertaken, clearly they weren't finished according to the response, neither had any cleaning taken place prior to renting out the accommodation - is this normal? Yes, I want my money back, as would any other reasonable consumer who paid in full for services that have not been delivered.
