Hotel Harbour IJmuiden

The room wasn't really clean, nor was the bed. Walls are pretty thin, you can hear everything. Right at the harbor, so there's a constant smell of fish and airplanes fly over it every 5 minutes. Price for this room was too high for the service.

I do not recommend this hotel, immediately after entering the building you can smell the smell of dead fish. The room was cold, the radiator mounted on the wall was broken - it did not work.

Location was ok but rooms were very cold inside and the heater I had was broken. Marks on the wall and they put a table Infront to hide it instead of repair. Bed was good no breakfast available. Need a long key code to enter to get inside very outdated and annoying way to enter your hotel for the evening. Nice lady behind the desk was helpful and friendly so I give 3 stars for that rooms I give 1 star. You hear all doors in the evening and morning banging closed. Elevator was also broken 🤣

Room was clean, elevator did not work, breakfast was elsewhere, but it was fine.... the hotel is located on a busy street.....

Room was ok, but the smell was unbearable

The reception is closed upon arrival. We have to wait fifteen minutes for the staff to arrive. The argument for this is "we asked you about your check-in time via a message, but you did not provide that". I did indeed pass that on, namely between 3 and 4 p.m. A generous estimate, taking into account traffic and possible traffic jams. If I had known in advance that the reception was structurally unmanned, I would have called them in the car fifteen minutes before arrival time to avoid unnecessary waiting. There is a rotting fish stench in the hotel and in the hotel room. The overnight stay was anything but pleasant. This is indicated upon arrival, as well as at check-out. Staff indicate that they cannot do anything about this, because they are located above a fish shop directly on the harbor. In the same street there is a bakery and a coffee shop, we had dinner there and surprisingly there is no fish smell. Probably because they have their ventilation and air extraction system in order, so that no fish smell lingers. Hotel staff argue that it is also clearly stated on their website that they are located at a fish auction. Unfortunately I booked through booking.com and did not view the website. There is a completely different description on booking.com. O.a. that it is 28 km from the Royal Palace, 30 km from Dam Square and has a view of the river. I see absolutely no explanation in this about "we are located at a fish auction, which is stated on our website", as the hotel employee put it, in response to our complaint about the fish stench. In my opinion this is extremely misleading. It would behoove the hotel owners to post an honest description on booking.com. We also read the reviews on Google and booking.com based on the fish smell. It turns out that several complaints about the fish smell were already reported months ago. A defective elevator was also reported in July 2022. This elevator is still broken. This makes me strongly suspect that the hotel owners do little to deal with complaints, invest minimally in the maintenance of the hotel and are mainly focused on making money. In the room there is a broken shelf in the corner, torn wallpaper here and there and a number of damp spots in the wallpaper, which further confirms this suspicion.
