We had breakfast here today with 5 adults and 2 children and our expectations were rather subdued due to the many negative reviews in advance. As can be seen on the homepage, there is no buffet, but a so-called plated breakfast. The table was beautifully set and the selection was very good. The dishes that were included in the price and could be ordered additionally were listed on a separate menu. Everything could be ordered later, the service was attentive and fast. Only the additionally high prices for coffee etc. lead to a point deduction. We'd love to come back

We arrived here on Sunday for the breakfast buffet with 7 people. To our surprise, there was no buffet but we came to a sparsely set table where there wasn't even one roll per person. You could reorder, but it took an eternity for the things to arrive.From 11:15 onwards salmon, tomato mozzarella and natural yoghurt were out. At this price I expect there to be a better choice and not have to ask for every single component of my breakfast and wait forever

Disappointing – Only the location is niceWe ate at this restaurant today and ordered two schnitzels. Unfortunately, the schnitzels had more of the character of snack schnitzels, which was really disappointing. The sauce tasted like it came out of a bag and didn't convince us either.Unfortunately, I would not recommend this restaurant. The only positive thing I can mention is the beautiful location - but that's about it

Special event on October 23rd, 2022:The Krupp wedding menu from 1906 on the wedding day of Bertha Krupp and Gustav von Bohlen und Halbach.A tasteful insight consisting of 5 courses of the original menu from 1906, garnished with reports about the life of the Krupp family by the historian Dr. Brigitta Hübner between the courses.It was a very interesting and delicious evening at the wedding table in memory of the history of the Krupp family in the traditional excursion restaurant Heimliche Liebe in Essen with a view of Lake Baldeney and also of the Krupp family's home, the Villa Hügel in Essen. The information from the historian about the past days of this most influential family in the city of Essen was particularly entertaining and educational.The food was very good and made from high quality fresh ingredients. The service staff was friendly and helpful and it was also possible to customize the menu in advance without any problems, as I don't eat pork and don't drink alcohol. That's the advantage when you cook freshly and can therefore adapt it flexibly.😉You felt like you were in the living room of the restaurateur family, even if complete strangers were sitting next to each other at a long table.Only the guest room was decorated a bit too simply and unfortunately too dark.Even in summer, the Heimliche Liebe is a well-attended excursion restaurant, where you can sit in the beer garden and enjoy good food, coffee and cake after playing mini golf. And all of this with a beautiful view of Lake Baldeney."No fire, no coal can burn as hot as secret love that no one knows nothing about."

Ate here in July and had pasta with mushroom sauce. Here you order at the cash register, get a beeper, go to a table and then pick up the food yourself. Miraculously, they dumped A LOT of cheese on my dish. Very surprised, I pick up the card. There's nothing about cheese here, neither on the dish itself nor anywhere else - it was a seasonal menu. Do I like cheese? No. Am I lactose intolerant? Yes. Did I really have a lot of fun in the bathroom that evening? 1/5 Don't go here.

Went there for the second time yesterday. Unfortunately I have to give a not so nice review. Breakfast was well, the rolls were probably from the day before. The scrambled eggs that were served were in a soup bowl, which I personally didn't like. The service was not professional and quickly annoyed. The view didn't do everything well, but a little! Unfortunately we won't be coming again. That's my personal feeling: a lot of money for bad service; The food wasn't of high quality either."

Always a dream to be here. We had our wedding at Heimliche Liebe a year ago and it was a wonderful celebration.
