After some initial difficulties with our room, we were able to really enjoy our stay. We went hiking as a couple in Saxon Switzerland and couldn't have chosen a better starting point than Schmilka. The hikes that you can do directly from the hotel are fantastic! In the hotel itself, the ambience and service are also very good, and the food was particularly highlighted. Both the breakfast and the packed lunches, which can be booked, and the evening meal are really good. At breakfast, however, it should be noted that you can prepare your own eggs there and your clothes will smell like food after eating (a lot of onions were fried...). The sauna area is small but nice; However, you should note that it is located in the center of the village. So if you "live" in the direction of the Hotel Helvetia (we had a room in the Villa Waldfrieden after a room change), you have to accept a short walk to the sauna.I found the service of reaching the reception via chat very pleasant and actually used it intensively. Overall, we felt very comfortable and would love to come back.

We slept there one night. The rooms were okay. The staff was very unfriendly when checking in, but friendly when checking out. Cleanliness was okay. The joints in the bathroom are welcome to be cleaned again. The sauna, which is free for guests to use, was nice. The breakfast was very tasty and individual. That was the only thing that justified the price of the accommodation.

Beautifully located, easy to reach by S-Bahn, ferry, car. The commitment, passion and commitment of the employees is outstanding. You get the feeling that everyone here is trying to give the guest a unique, wonderful experience. The service was very good in all areas. The breakfast and the food in the restaurant and in the bar were also very tasty. The morning “Schmilka newspapers” were also a nice gesture. We would certainly have used the sauna (very lovingly designed) 1-2 times more if it had been closer to our accommodation (Waldfrieden), but you know that beforehand. When we arrived we had a spider infestation in the room, which could certainly have been avoided, but a cleaner helped us very kindly. It would be nice to have a kettle and mugs/cups in the room for evening tea.

A little magic corner connected sustainably to a web of goodness. Be it the sauna, the restaurant, the breath taking view, the organic bakery, and brewery, they all synergized into a wonderful vacation.

A beautiful place, you can completely relax! The staff is very friendly and helpful. You can hike directly from Schmilka or go by boat or bus. Breakfast was great and the bakery and breads were to die for. The beer garden is also just beautiful, with the stream and the seating is in some small corners. We'll definitely come back.We stayed at the Hotel zur Mühle.

If there was a Schmilka fan club, we would join immediately! What a wonderful place that was created here with so many incredibly loving details.We were passing through and wanted to continue the next day. We threw the plan overboard. We preferred to stay.Everyone is really friendly, in a good mood and helpful. The rooms are very individual and make you feel comfortable. The hotel offers a lot of luxury and great food.There are small private corners everywhere to relax and enjoy.The beers from the brewery are very tasty and the mill is worth seeing.We will definitely come back!It's not often that we write a review, but we would like to make an urgent recommendation here. Go there, enjoy!

Schmilka is a complete scam and also completely unsuitable for cyclists and hikers passing through, as there is no infrastructure and the choice of food options is minimal. On the day I stayed overnight there would have been a pasta show cooking for €49... I thought it was a bit excessive.Here, less performance is simply provided for more money and this is justified by sticking some labels on the underperformance that are “popular”.Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else and get more service for less money.There is one star for the friendly and helpful service staff at the reception, and the breakfast at the Hotel Helvetia is also good... although the cooking stations there "fry your own favorite egg" had strong vibes of "do your own stuff".Oh yes.. There is no WiFi in the accommodation either, but it certainly depends on the accommodation you choose.

Something different for a holiday with a special charm.You have to compromise on the location, as the main road runs directly through Schmilka and 50 is allowed.But still recommended.

Schmilka, a beautiful village in Saxon Switzerland. We spent five wonderful days there and stayed in the old mill from 1665 - two adults and an eight-year-old child. For breakfast and dinner we had to walk 250 meters to the Strandgut Restaurant. The food was excellent and we were very impressed by the organic concept. The only negative point was the limited selection on the children's menu and there was no ketchup. However, the half board was fantastic. Schmilka is located on the Malerweg, which enabled us to go hiking every day. We also took part in the mill tour, which was very interesting. Thank you for this wonderful vacation!

Overpriced “organic concept”, rooms in the Rauschenstein are nice, but there is a clear need for improvement: mold in the mini shower, old leaves and weeds on the terrace, pillows only with half a cover and therefore not usable, heating obviously hasn’t worked for a long time , an old oil radiator was placed in the room. You have to walk a long way for breakfast. Wi-Fi does not exist “as a matter of philosophy”; I would like to decide for myself whether I use the Internet or not. Positive to mention: really excellent breakfast and great sauna. Otherwise I probably wouldn't want to live there again - unfortunately almost everything in Schmilka belongs to this hotel, so there are hardly any alternatives there.

Great organic concept in all areas - from the rooms, to the fantastic breakfast, to the delicious menus to the products from the mill bakery and the in-house beer! The ceremonies in the bathhouse with a hot tub and beer infusion or the full moon sauna are also highly recommended. We felt completely comfortable. Ideal especially for a hiking tour, of which there are all levels of difficulty.

Birthday weekend with a difference... but unfortunately despite emails and calls there was no attention from the owner... it's a shame... the room was great, orientally furnished with everything you need... the breakfast was good, unfortunately the scrambled eggs were around 10 a.m Out of stock and wasn't refilled again, but there was the option to prepare it yourself, which was ok but not appropriate for this hotel category... Dinner consisted of a 4-course menu of a high standard but really not necessary and not that suitable for me.. .the bakery and brewery tour were both really great and interesting, thank you very much for that...we also took a bath in the hot tub, but it wasn't to our liking...the lifeguard was super friendly and helpful and the staff were all very helpful too Nice...we had a voucher and didn't have to pay the full price because in my opinion it was actually excessive for what we were offered...as always, we made the best of it and thank you for 3 great days in the little town of Schmilka

Given the many positive reviews and the very promising Bio Refugium website, we were really looking forward to our stay during the family cycling holiday. Unfortunately it was a big disappointment. The accommodation in the forester's house was not bike-friendly (there was no place to store the bikes, we had to carry the bike bags into the apartment up 3 steep stairs), the apartment was old and shabby, the wooden floorboards creaked with every step, there was no comfort whatsoever Bathroom was tiny and the cleanliness left a lot to be desired (cobwebs, broken glass, dust, dirty windows). However, the reception responded to the complaint in an accommodating manner and offered us an alternative room the following day.For dinner and breakfast you have to go to StrandGut, 400m away (it was very good). The sauna was nice (we could use it from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.). The Mühlenbiergarten with a very tasty snack and beer selection closed in the evening 1 hour before the official closing time and we no longer had dinner. All in all, we were unfortunately not impressed by the overall concept and, apart from the Mühlenbiergarten and the StrandGut, the town of Schmilka was pretty dead on the three days we were there (all other facilities were closed).

Beware of strange business practices!Therefore the booking was canceled.The booking I made online was confirmed to us in writing, but the price for 2 nights was subsequently increased by a factor of 3(!), compensation was supposed to be dinner. Since I didn't want to go, the management assistant threatened me with termination, quote: "According to §5, we have the right to withdraw from another guest request for this period within the same period as you have the right to withdraw free of charge."So be careful not to cancel your longed-for vacation a month in advance when better guests might be found. Without me, anyway. If you love bad surprises, laugh at goodwill and have a lot of money, you should definitely book.

I recently stayed at the 4 star Hotel Helvetia, the rooms were clean but relatively small and pretty outdated, the service was always satisfactory, but I received a broken bathrobe, the sauna is beautiful and the mill is also rustic and cozy. But it's about a 500 m walk to get there and 300 m to the reception without much space to stop your car, just a public parking lot. The only really annoying thing is that 3 nights cost almost 1000 euros with half board. Yes, it's all organic, you hope and the breakfast is highly recommended, but with half board a 4-course menu is forced on you without you knowing in advance. I actually wanted half board to be cheaper than eating out every day, but it wasn't. I can only recommend that everyone take breakfast and then you can decide flexibly what you want in the evening. Unfortunately, we and especially the children found the food too extravagant; they would have been more happy with something home-style. Above all, the main courses were too few, 3 vegetarian dishes that I didn't like at all, even though I like to eat without a meat side dish, and 3 main courses that weren't quite my taste either. The pump steak was another 12 euros extra, so only 2 Main courses, a hearty venison goulash for the evening or chicken wrapped in bacon was also hearty.
