The restaurant is closed on November 1st (2024) in beautiful autumn weather.

We only ate here. Waited 40 minutes for a large portion of fries that was anything but large. The shandy was acceptable. If we had known beforehand that this would delay our hiking tour by more than an hour, we would have avoided this snack bar.

The menu displayed at the bistro, valid from summer 2024, is unfortunately no longer up to date. A cyclist now costs €5.50 instead of the advertised €4. The Radler also tasted more like a Hasseröder, instead of the Gösser promised on the menu.

The hotel is in a beautiful location, as described on the website. The room was clean. Checking in is also easy using a key safe. I can't say anything about the food because I catered for myself and the price for breakfast (20 euros) was too high for me personally.I noticed that the opening times of the restaurant were incorrectly advertised on the signs on the hiking trails. I had a few hikers who wanted to stop off or were on their way there and were disappointed to find that the inn was closed. This may need to be updated on the signposts. The hardest part for me was the way to the hotel. It is mentioned several times on the website that there is a forest path that leads there. So far okay. I had imagined a forest path lined with trees on the left and right. But that is not the case. It is a narrow path, on one side there are mountains and on the other side it goes steeply downhill. That took a lot out of me on the nerves when I got there. (But it's probably due to my fear of heights) Thank God I haven't had the experience of another vehicle coming towards you on this route. But that is my subjective view of this route.Otherwise, I really enjoyed my stay, had pure nature and the most beautiful hiking trails from the hotel.

Unfortunately, the inn is closed (“closed day today”), although according to the signs on the hiking trail it should be open.

Is every day a closed day there? After a long hike, you want to be able to rely on being served.

We booked for one night. A beautiful place and a lovely hotel. The rooms are functional, renovated and very clean. The booking was uncomplicated with very good communication from the owner. The breakfast was great and sufficient. The cold plates in the evening, which we were offered to book, were very good! We will definitely be guests again!

Great forest restaurant for a rest. The offer depends on the guests, i.e. hikers. They often have their sandwiches in their backpacks and these days the euro is no longer so loose. There is a manageable and, in my opinion, sufficient offer. It's a great way to refresh and strengthen yourself. Of course it also costs a little more than a snack bar in the city - but the place is probably not comparable. We'd be happy to stop again next time, if it's open.

The Waldgasthaus Steinerne Renne is beautifully located in the forest and was the highlight of our hike. Even as a child, I enjoyed hiking there with my grandparents and parents. It's a tradition, so to speak. The location and the beautiful old building itself are definitely worth seeing. I would have liked to give the full 5 stars, but to be honest there is still room for improvement when it comes to the following things:The railing of the bridge over the waterfall had partially collapsed. Nevertheless, the bridge was crossable. A repair would still be good. The food and drink is available in the form of a snack. Prices are quite high for the mediocre quality. You get the feeling that these are finished products that are just heated up quickly. But to be honest, we were very happy about the snacks on offer and the fact that the inn continues to operate in this remote location, is maintained and is still alive here is worth much more to us than the fact that it's a bit "pretty expensive". In any case, we can say that we really enjoyed it and we would like to come back.On the positive side, it should be mentioned that the owner is clearly thinking about it. There is an order form that you can mark for the staff at the snack bar. This avoids misunderstandings. If possible, drinks are served straight away and when food is ready, it is reported via a vibration alarm on a small pager that you receive. You can then pick up the food at the snack counter. We ate outside and it was clean and attractive. To the operator and his team: Thank you for running the old inn, for thinking about it and obviously making an effort. You're doing well! We wish you all the best from the bottom of our hearts. Please carry on. I looked into many happy, satisfied eyes... of others who had also stopped for a rest.
