This was a really good basic hotel, clean and friendly. Buffet breakfast was hot and well presented, staff very helpful. Located across the road from the railway station so is perfect for people without a car or no immediate transport. Not a 4 star place but historic building, so don't expect 21st century frills ! but a really great option for views and location.

Ignore the bad reviews. Give this beautiful hotel a try. We were concerned after booking once we had read the reviews. We needn’t have worried. The room was beautiful and exceptionally clean. …

We stayed at Windermere hotel for one night and had really pleasant experience. The room was clean and comfortable, with all the amenities you'd expect. The staff were friendly and helpful, making check-in and check-out a breeze. The location was convenient, close to the train station and shops, which made getting around easy. Overall, it was a solid choice for a short stay without any complaints. Would consider staying here again. Highly recommended.

Stayed for 1 night, it was a gift and 1 night was more than enough. |The hotel externally looks shabby and the window frames are in dire need of replacement. …

We booked as a couple but within a wider walking group and were pleased with room number 34 which was allocated for ourselves plus 2 dogs. …

We stayed here as a gift from some friends, first impressions were not good as the receptionist could have been more welcoming when we asked about having to pay for parking as a guest! as not mentioned on their website. We checked in, and told what time for breakfast, we asked what were the choices, so we went for one, to be told not available…. The lift was two small, so one went in with our cases. The rooms were disappointing as tired and old, backed on to kitchen vent, which starts early!!! Our sink was broken, and can see that has been reported before - but still broken. The heated towel rail was a health and safety risk and would not pass an electrical safety test. Rooms were hot and not ventilated as windows kept shutting. Used my Blue Peter skills to keep them open and to stop bathroom door chattering. So be aware of room 207! Unlike the male reception staff, the breakfast staff were very smily and the food was distinctly average, they could not poach me an egg, so had to go with hard fried eggs! So the big question, would I stay here again, probably not, given the choice of excellent customer service in other establishments, this hotel does not take the honest feedback on board, even though they claim to pass it on to management. Final point, our room was not even serviced ….

My husband booked for our anniversary. We looked at the rooms on the website but sadly the one we were put in 116 was very disappointing. The wallpaper had stains and tears, the table was chipped, the curtains were not hanging correctly. The windows were rotted and badly needed painting. The bed was very uncomfortable and you could feel the springs. My husband wheezed badly when in the room, we had to leave the window open which made it cold and noisy. We had to stay out most of the day and the evening. On the positive side the staff were lovely and the breakfast was ok, but sadly didn't make up for the room. Be aware if you have allergies you are aware of the dogs being allowed in parts of the hotel and next door in the bar. There is also a fee of £6 per night to park your car!!!This was a very disappointing experience which we had really looked forward to.

A group of 8 of us stayed here on the second last weekend of September. We all had very comfortable rooms with clean bathrooms and a great breakfast. Value for the money we paid and I would stay here again. The staff were all very friendly. The location was perfect for our needs.

A shearings 5 day holiday on booking this holiday we request a high floor and a nice view. The room the hotel gave us was on the 1st floor with a view of the porch roof as for room number 106, the wall was pine claded. The curtains were torn . The electric towel radiator had black tape wrapped around where the electric wire went in that's a safety issue. The room radiator thermostat was on number 5, but the radiator was cold. The room looked very tired. To look at the hotel from outside, all the windows looked rotten with all the paint flaking off. The hotel didn't have any atmosphere in the evening there was no entertainment at all. The only good thing was the food .also, there are no hanging hooks to hang your coats up if they were wet . Also, there is no hanging hook in the bathroom. For a bathrobe. You also have to ask for your room to be serviced. The pictures of the rooms on the website are nothing like the room we was in ..

Can I start by saying the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. That's where the positives end. …
