Beautiful old medieval building with tons of character. Very warm and cosy in our Barn accommodation block. Kitchen very clean and tidy. A very warm welcome from Jack and the team at reception. We did two of the advertised walks to Pilsbury which were very enjoyable. WiFi in the main areas but not everywhere. Highly recommend.

I was pleasantly surprised - this is my first stay in a UK hostel (stayed in many abroad) and I was really happy with the price point at £15 a night for a dorm. The hall itself is aesthetically beautiful. The inside is like a converted pub / restaurant feeling. You can get meals from around £8-15 which I thought was reasonable and they were big portions and tasty. I didn't try breakfast so can't comment on that. The dorms were a bit noisy with the squeaking of floors and doors but that's to be expected in an old building. Generally (maybe as this is a hiking area) guests were respectful of noise. The bunk beds were sturdy with no wobbling when the person above/below moved. And the pillow and duvet were super squishy and comfy. There's a sink and shower inside the dorm (this left a bit to be desired as the shower head can't be moved and you're stood in what feels like a plastic container on the edge of the room). But bonus is that toilets were outside the room which was helpful to lessen noise of flushing etc. Toilets are inside singular cubicles/rooms with a sink inside, so you have privacy.Check in / out was easy (remember you need ID!!) and the staff I met at the bar and reception were both incredibly lovely and helpful.Re. parking - it fills up super quick as it's quite small but there is plenty of on street parking options just outside as well. The village is small but cute with a couple of pub and convenience store options. A grocery store opened at 7am so I was able to grab snacks pre-hike.Have already recommended this place to others as a good base to explore the peaks :)

I had a great stay at Hartington, staying 2 nights on a cycle touring trip. It's a fascinating building, with lots of quirky spaces, and comfortable areas for both resting in, and for eating in. There is a sense of history about the place. The team at Hartington were very friendly and welcoming.

Historic building in a Derbyshire Dales village. Hostel serving food all day. Village has two shops selling snacks pasties and papers plus 2 pubs. Great food at the local pub hotel. Check in from 3 pm. We visited the Crich Tramway village which was close by.

Stayed in a 6 bed private room with en-suite, which offered enough space. The building was especially interesting, maintaining many of its historic features. …

Staff were very helpful and friendly. Room was clean and comfortable, and the location is great for both cycling and walking. There were a lot of flies about, including in the kitchen, which was a bit irritating. …

Flies, flies everywhere. This is because it is next door to a farm and the other guests can't read or seem to ignore signs asking for doors to be closed. The self-catering kitchen was so full of flies we were genuinely put off with cooking anything in there and we're glad we ordered breakfast from the cafe instead. Again the fly problem comes from the inability of the other guests to shut doors and keep them out.On a better note the rooms are a good size and spacious. We picked one with a bathroom which had a good shower. There's lots of other room options, including landpods and bell tents.Lots of activities and things for kids to play with. Had a decent sized sitting room with TV which had the Olympics on throughout the day. We used this room a few times just to play some boardgames as it had a big table. The staff were very lovely especially in the cafe and tried there best to accommodate requests and changes to meals. Good range of food options and drinks. The only other downside is because it is an old house the floors and stairs are creaky, so you will be woken around 7ish when other people stir.

Camped but the place only had 1 working toilet for potentially over 30 outdoor guests. Literally queuing to drop the kids off at the pool every morning, plus the toilet was in a shower room so if someone goes for a shower you’re screwed. So many flies in the shared kitchen it was rank.Good bits - there’s 2 cute cats that hang about and the fire pit is really good. I’d sneak some wood in though as the logs they sell are overpriced and pretty chunky to get going if you’re a beginner (I’m not, I started our fire with a stick and some cotton wool)Staff do their best and seem understaffed at busy times but for the price we paid, just call a plumber guys! Its ok here but imagine the opposite of ‘off grid’ probably better for the family but good luck finding a washroom or toilet.

Lovely location & friendly staff. Flies EVERYWHERE which was a mega pain when trying to sleep. I understand the YH is next to a farm and with warmth= fly's. However, fly paper or window screens in the bedrooms would help a lot. …
