I have stayed here both for business, and my familie's vacation. I write sitting in one of the most beautiful and charming rural settings I've ever experienced in my travels. The food is superb. The service is superb. I love the rooms I've stayed in. The surrounding countryside is absolutely beautiful, with the greenest greens I've seen in the British Isles and Ireland. The River Barle is beautiful. The landscape is spectacular. It's sparsely populated with dark skies at night. It's absolutely quiet and peaceful, but there's plenty to see and do, within a very short distance, and an unlimited opportunity to roam over open country, deep valleys, high hills and moorland, green fields, idyllic farmsteads, deep woodlands and the beautiful Exmoor field patterns everywhere. The hotel staff know and love this landscape and can explain the locations and give plenty of local travel or rambling advice to visitors. A thoroughly good experience.

A very good hotel, food good and plentiful, breakfast good choice |Rooms comfortable, but mind your head on doorways to some as this is a very old building with doorways fitting to the age it was built |Staff helpful and friendly |A great place for a base for a walking holiday

We spent a very comfortable 3 days at SBHH in the September heatwave. Well appointed ensuite room overlooking Barle Valley; extensive, excellent breakfast and dinner menus, cosy bar (very well stocked!) and lounge. …

I have just returned from a four night stay at Simonsbath House Hotel for an Alpha Painting Holiday. |The hotel is very old but comfortable and spotlessly clean and from the moment I arrived, I was made to feel very welcome. …

Lovely owner run hotel with friendly staff and great service. Food was fresh, quality produce. Breakfast and dinner exceeded expectations. Chef is excellent with an interesting, tasty menu options for dinner especially. Of the group of 11 not one person could fault anything they ate. Also worthy a mention is the selection of whiskies and gins at the bar alongside all standard drinks offered. Owner knew the story of each distillery and some were very remote and special indeed.Additionally they offer guided walks through the area And welcome dogs!Highly recommend Simonsbath Hotel! We will be returning again

Great place for walking, nature, scenery, solitude, history, etc.Great staff and very nice food.A few minor cons:Rooms and Reception could do with some TLC.Noisy sawmill over the road. If you want peace and quiet then weekends might be best.

Simonsbath House is the oldest property on all of Exmoor, and, for over a century, the only property. The charming old place is sympathetically maintained by Andrew and his team who offer a truly memorable experience.  …
