Pros:- The location being so close to the Edinburgh Castle, the tourist attractions, and the train station- Quietness but still safe to walk around at night.- Friendly and engaging staff- Very spacious building with numbers of lounges and kitchen- Cleanliness- They provide the key for the locker.Cons:- No privacy curtain for each bed- The shared bathroom can get quite busy with so many rooms of dorms use them at the same time.

This hostel is a fantastic choice for travelers, offering a welcoming atmosphere and exceptional service from the friendly staff. If you arrive before check-in, there is a secure storage room available to keep your luggage safe, which is a thoughtful convenience. The hostel also provides a range of entertainment options, such as board games and a pool table, perfect for socializing or unwinding after a day of exploring. The rooms are comfortable, featuring spacious beds and good Wi-Fi connectivity, ensuring a pleasant stay. The hostel’s affordable pricing and prime location make it an ideal base for tourists looking to explore the area without overspending. There’s also a cozy lounge area where you can relax, read, or chat with fellow travelers, creating a lively and positive environment. The only downside was a minor issue with the heating system, as the owner was not on-site to address it promptly. However, this did not significantly impact the overall experience.Overall, the hostel’s great amenities, friendly service, and vibrant atmosphere make it an excellent option for visitors. I would definitely recommend it to anyone seeking budget-friendly accommodation with a welcoming community vibe.

The staff at this hostel were incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout from the moment we made our booking till end of our stay. The rooms were immaculate and very comfortable. Zero complaints. Clean and comfortable accommodation and a fun atmosphere with easy access to everything you’d want to see in Edinburgh. Our group of 40 people all agreed that this was one of the best places to stay and get around the city.

I stayed at the hostel for two nights and honestly it was one of the best hostels I’ve ever been to! The location is perfect, just by the castle and the views are great!Rooms are spacious, the hostel has a great structure, 24h reception, and they have lots of events. I’ve been to the stand up comedy night and it was really fun! Absolutely recommend!

Really perfect location, got to meet lots of lovely people with help from their evening activities!Super helpful staff and easy to go in and out whatever the time. Not very good for dietary requirements if you get food there.Showers had lovely warm water but there wasn’t really anywhere to change or have privacy. Also a humongous spider in the ladies bathroom but he may have just been backpacking from Australia.Overall good for any age, beds are squeaky but have cool duvets!

I stayed at Castle Rock for one night last week and had an amazing experience! The staff was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I loved the cool decor in every room and the comfortable lounges. Bathrooms and bedrooms were clean and cozy. Couldn't ask for a better location for exploring Old Town, and proximity to transportation hubs. The 5 GBP breakfast included a bread roll with various spreads available, unlimited tea and coffee, cereal and fruit. I will definitely book again next time I visit Edinburgh!

Such an amazing hostel, right in the old centre of Edinburgh. You have a beautiful view of Edinburgh Castle and it only takes about 10-15 minutes to talk down to the new city. The hostel itself is really great as well, they organise something every night and the rooms are really nice. Everything is clean, the beds are comfy and the staff is great!
