There are not many places to stay (or eat) in Tomintoul, so we picked this one. It is a lovely old building in a small historic town. That said, it was less than comfortable. …

Stayed there once and, although we were quite disappointed with the room (especially with the shower facilities), we had one of our best nights in the lounge bar downstairs drinking whisky and chatting with some fishermen that were spending the night there too. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly as well. That experience in the bar from the first time led us visit it again when we returned to Tomintoul, just for the bar that time, and the atmosphere was as great as we remembered from our first visit.Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend staying at the hotel as I think the rooms need a lot of improvements, but I'd recommend a visit to the ground floor bar for a cosy drink if you end up spending the night in Tomintoul.

Stopped here one evening with my Wife. Initially just for a Drink, but we ended up sharing Fish and Chips and a desert. What a great experience it was. …

Single bed in twin room comfortable, breakfast passable . Hotel very disappointing, needs complete upgrade. Bathroom had bath with shower mixer taps , only a trickle of water, shower curtain stained . Had to get door to room fixed as it wouldn’t lock , tv wouldn’t work. Chair surfaces broken. Plus more . We won’t be back

I have limited mobility. Ground floor room not available. No offer of help with luggage up forty steps to my room. Upholstery of armchair was torn and ragged. Somebody else’s crumbs under cushion. My table at breakfast next to window with at least six bluebottle flies.

Beautiful large rooms with a tub for a plus! Hotel staff were caring, noticed my parter was unwell and offered to package room for our room so we would be comfortable. Cannot appreciate the comparison he showed us after a long day of driving and very little energy to think. Those small touches go a long way

First class hospitality, lovely rooms, mountain bike storage provided last minute without any qualms, good food and drink and nice atmosphere in the bar area, with decent facilities, and friendly staff. A pleasant experience and glad we stayed.

A great family hotel, with loads of character. We have stayed here a number of times when in the Cairngorms, and always come back. …

Had a table booked, but just had a drink because the food looked average and overpriced. General vibe was a bit weird. Would not recommend for food.

We stayed for one night - room was clean and spacious. Staff all lovely and helpful. Food for dinner was great, and arrived quickly. Had a couple of drams afterwards - which they had a great range to pick from. Breakfast was similarly great, and the cafetière of coffee was a nice touch at breakfast too. Wouldn't hesitate to return!
