We had a very nice spacious room room with a large bed; the bathroom was similarly very spacious and everything was very clean. We ate the cooked breakfast each day of our stay and it was quite good, although personally, I prefer the continental style of breakfast. The first evening, we ate in the hotel and had a very nice main course, but it has to be said that each evening that we were there, the evening meal menu was the same. Service was good. The only negative comment is that we were served Belhaven beer which was absolutely disgusting, tasting of sour yeast. (Subsequently we had the same beer at another restaurant and it was very nice). I suggest that if you want beer in the restaurant, you go for a bottled beer.

Paid over £1000 for a 2 night stay for myself and some colleagues. We arrived late after the restaurant had closed and have been told that we cannot eat our takeaway pizza in the building.Forced to eat outside, in the dark.No lock in the bathroom door, a smashed TV remote that needs holding together, dirty extractor fans and black mould in the bathroom.Thank you for your hospitality - a real memorable experience 🙃😬

Needed emergency overnight accommodation at very short notice for myself and my badly injured dog. Totally helpful and supportive. Never once made an issue of possible blood stains on carpets, but instead brought a pile of old towels and a drinking bowl for the dog. Also supplied me with a phone charger. The owner, David, personally took me over to the clinic, when I couldn’t get a taxi. Not a pretentious or “fancy” hotel. But clean, neat, comfortable, well appointed and full of true love and decency.

Stayed over on day 2 of a motorbike tour, great stop off point, railings to secure bike to. Room was very small, would be really uncomfortable with 2 people in. Service was excellent, both hotel & restaurant. Food for evening meal & breakfast was excellent quality, very enjoyable.

It's an ok hotel - nothing great about it. Rather run down with poor maintenance due to an obvious lack of investment. Rooms are not great. Wardrobes stink - don't use. Bathroom is tiny and the electric shower is awful. Shower cubicle needs a thorough cleaning. Beds are OK. This is one of those "just sleep and go (quickly)" hotels. Receptionist was a nice young gentleman. A1 road to Edinburgh is a few minutes away, and Edinburgh is about 35 minutes drive away.

Staff were polite, friendly and helpful, food was decent but nothing to shout about. The hotel needs upgrading, it looked like it had been many years since any investment had been put in. Room was clean and comfortable however it was very 1980's.Saying that I had a very pleasant stay and again the staff were very nice.

Our room was quiet, clean and comfortable. The food was very good with plenty of vegetarian options. The dining room has a view over the firth and Fife beyond. Pleasant friendly staff. Plenty of parking spaces. …

We stayed two nights while attending a wedding in East Lothian. The hotel is nothing like what you see on their website. …

The Maitlandfield House hotel strikes with friendly staff, very good location, comfortable beds and enjoyable food - in the morning and evening. We had a nice and relaxing holiday here. The town is nice and the next train station to Edinburgh isn‘t very far.
