Great place. Owner is very nice and attentive. Lucie the pub dog is great. Good selection of beers, darts, pool in the pub. Hotel rooms are basic but clean and well maintained. Pub/hotel is in a small town well situated next to a lot of nearby activities. Definitely recommend.

We didn’t stay in the hotel but had three lovely days in the pub. The barkeeper and owner is one of the nicest people we have met. He recommended local drinks, showed us a map for probable distilleries, and gave us a lot of tips for places and things to do - like Highland Games! He made sure we didn’t miss on Rockin Roll Bingo! We had a lovely time in this pub and will definitely come back!

We stayed two nights at the Glenavon in Tomintoul - hats off to owner Graham, another Hidden Highland Hero single-handedly saving a beautiful old highland inn from extinction. Friendly, helpful, makes a mean cocktail, loves dogs - couldn't fault anything! Lovely quiet room - all good, we'll definitely be back.

This was supposed to be the 'grande finale' of our holiday, with the website offering hearty breakfast and food through the day. ||However, we were suprised on arrival to find a notice on the entrance door stating ' No food '. …

Cannot emphasize how much my husband and I enjoyed our experience here! Graham is such a friendly and engaging host, bartender, and conversationalist. Our travels brought us to The Glenavon past 11pm, but we were received with a warm welcome and also met several kind strangers at the bar after checking in. Though brief, our evening was absolutely wonderful and the room was very quiet despite the lively events downstairs. 10/10 would come back! Lucie the dog was a delightful bonus <3

Was only looking for a wee drink, left 6 hours later having had the greatest evening with graham, absolutely lovely person, along with lucie his playful beautiful malinois. Amazing selection of whiskey, gin, beer and other spirits. We didn’t stay in the hotel as we stayed in a van, but we will definitely come back next time, for i’m sure another amazing night.

as A9 closed due to an accident we had to divert through tomintoul which my wife had cycled through about forty years ago on way to Dingwall and had stayed in youth hostel next to this pub so we revisited. warmly greeted by owners dog malinois possibly loved a scratch very friendly and bought her toy to be thrown and a small have a tug of war,The owner barman was lovely he made sure we were happy with the dog which we were. It's a cracking wee pub wee garden with tables, traditional dart board, and pool table for use, the owner told us a bit of the history saying it had a bit of a reputation prior to him taking over a couple of years ago and is lacking local support which is a shame because it has great potential as a great local. there are other eateries a bit more upmarket but if this pub had a better usage and sold soup and sannies, pies ( only crisps and nuts on offer just now) it would be a great place to break a journey and allow some upgrade on the pub. hope if your passing you'll give it a go.
