We called in for a drink at 10 pm and got refused because we weren’t a resident there that night. What a joke do they not want any customers to keep them going. We are pensioners and just wanted 1 drink each before going back to our hotel. Need a head wobble I reckon. Or normal people running a pub. There were just a few others in there having a drink but we were refused point blank. Had one in the next pub down from there no problem and it was a much nicer place to sit and have a night cap. Don’t bother entering this place ever. We definitely wont

Our stay at The Kings Head was.... adequate! The location in town was great ( only a 10 minute walk from the train station), the room was clean and the breakfast and breakfast staff top notch. However the welcome on check in although polite was not overly warm and friendly and the room was very tired, and would benefit from new decor and the old 80's furniture replacing. The shower was a trickle and bathroom accessories falling off the wall! Tea and milk were not replaced for our second night and we weren't back in time to request replacements. Overall an adequate stay but expected better for the price paid.

The room was horrific. Like staying in a fun house. The slope on the floor meant that the bed was on blocks on the back legs, was tilting to one side and tiny! …

Room lighting was a little iffy. Well decorated. Outlets the minimum for charging devices? Water in the room a couple of breakfast options available with a meal. Hotel was unavailable from the street until four p m, fact that no one communicated to us, Nor did anyone advise to pull into one of the upper street parking lots and walked down and Sort out how baggage would get there. A good news is they have WI. Fi. The bad news is it's unsecured so you really can't use it. No elevator always a problem with old british hotels, can prepare to leave your bags in the car.

The location of the hotel was great and right on the historic High Street. It is very old which gives much of it's Charm, but the room could have used a little more upkeep.  …

Absolutely wonderful - took in two weary travellers and were generous with time and service. My train fell over at Abergavenny because it was raining a bit, and as a consequence after several hours another chap and I travelling to a similar location joined forces and tried to book a taxi together. The food festival was in town, and so, failing to find a taxi available, we tried the hotels. Due to the food festival everywhere was booked up, but the King's Head had a couple of rooms into which the occupants hadn't yet checked in, and they contacted the organisers and confirmed that the rooms were now actually available, so gave them to my travelling companion and me.On arrival we were treated very well, we had a couple of drinks, and they opened the kitchen specifically for us, and cooked each of us a delicious chicken tikka masala - this was by then about 10pm. A shout-out to Abu and the kitchen staff for that. The room was perfectly good - a double bed en suite. Everything was very clean and fresh, and everything worked - exactly what a traveller needs on an unexpected stay. For breakfast I had the full works - sausage, bacon, black pudding hash brown, scrambled eggs, tomato, toast and tea, which was included in the reasonable £105 price for the night, and again served by excellent, professional, friendly staff.Cheers, all - you made a rubbish situation very bearable!

We were leaving the pub after calling in for a drink when we saw a dog sitting on a table next to the bar. We certainly would not have had a drink in there if we had known dogs were able to sit on tables. Surely there must be hygiene laws to prevent this. Unbelievable!

Very disappointing Sunday lunch. Beyond average. Meat all very well done and very uninspiring vegetables served with one giant roast potato. Had much better roast dinners for not much more money. Overpriced and pretty grim. Not great interior either.

Noisy night of non sleep, DO NOT stay here over the weekend. Stayed on Saturday night, was told at check in that music plays until 11.30…useless info at that time and understated. Music was loud 2 floors up, no sleep until they finally kicked everyone out. Place wants to be a hotel and nightclub in the same space, great for the pub goers, awful for the guests.Price pays for location, it is a good location in the centre of town, but I should have elected for a hotel slightly further out that was run as a hotel. Rooms were…rooms, neither good nor bad, not worth a premium. Breakfast was great, and breakfast staff were fantastic.
