With over 1 billion active users worldwide (including more than 150 million in the U.S.), TikTok’s influence is undeniable, especially regarding travel. In April 2023, the tourism marketing agency MGH surveyed 1,139 U.S. TikTok users to assess the app’s role in sparking travel interest. The study revealed that 60 percent of respondents felt motivated to visit a new location after watching a video on the platform. Additionally, 35 percent of those users acted on that inspiration, booking trips to the destinations they discovered through TikTok.

Recent data from TikTok (gathered from January to December 2023) reveals which destinations are climbing the popularity ladder to become some of the app’s most sought-after getaways—and could potentially be the top spots to watch in 2024. According to TikTok, here are the cities, states, and countries whose hashtags experienced the greatest growth last year.
