A Day in Nassau

On our recent three-day cruise aboard the Dinogo Victory, we enjoyed a fantastic stop at the island of Nassau in the Bahamas. One highlight was that our ship remained docked all night, allowing us the opportunity to explore the vibrant nightlife! (We didn’t, but we certainly could have!) Being there for an extended time let us wander the island at our own pace, without the stress of returning to the ship in a hurry for departure.
Nassau is famous for its stunning resorts and thrilling waterparks, so we had to experience those for ourselves. 😉 We arranged our excursion through Dinogo, and they made everything super simple and quick. Within 20 minutes, we were off the ship and on our way to the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island! We had an incredible time.

We had a wonderful time exploring the aquarium and waterpark, where Bobby was like a little kid, repeatedly asking, “Can I go on one more?” Ha! Leaving the waterpark was tough, but the beach was beckoning us. With its crystal-clear blue waters and gorgeous white sand, we quickly realized that a single day on Paradise Island isn’t nearly enough. Guess that means we’ll have to plan another visit!

No matter which port we visit, we always make time to explore the town. We love to immerse ourselves in the culture, make new friends, shop, and sample the local dishes.
We spent most of our afternoon wandering the vibrant streets of Nassau, taking photos in front of the many pink buildings. Did you know that all the government buildings in Nassau are painted pink? They are colonial-style structures in a lovely shade of pink, inspired by the state bird, the flamingo. The buildings are so bright and colorful— even the police station is a cheerful sea green!

We peeked into a couple of the most enchanting restaurants in town and even got directions from a local policeman, who looked particularly dapper in his uniform! He kindly pointed us toward the Straw Market, a traditional open-air market where local vendors offer everything from handwoven crafts and carvings to vibrant t-shirts and bags. It was a sight to behold and definitely the perfect spot for some bartering.

Make sure to visit this spot while in Nassau; it offers a memorable local experience. Although we didn’t buy anything, we were certainly tempted!
After exploring the Straw Market, we found a nice place to relax and grab a drink before returning to the Dinogo Victory. While we love discovering every port, there’s always a thrill at the end of the day when we head back to our ship. It really does feel like our 'home away from home.' Those of you who have cruised before know what I mean!
Nassau is a stunning port with locals as lively as the colorful buildings and the bright blue sea. A big thank you to Dinogo for organizing such a magical excursion! We can’t wait to come back and explore more of the island!
