An Architectural Exploration for Cruise Enthusiasts: Discovering Bermuda

#1. St. Peter’s Church

St. Peter's Church is the oldest Anglican church outside the British Isles still in continuous operation. Recognized as a UNICEF World Heritage Site, it is located in the historic town of Saint George and was originally constructed in 1612, undergoing several reconstructions over the years.

Inside the church, you can find the original altar, throne, and communion silver. Surrounding St. Peter's Church are two historic cemeteries, once segregated for white and black residents of Bermuda. The western section of the cemetery now features on the African Diaspora Heritage Trail.

#2. Carter House Museum

Built in 1640, the Carter House is regarded as one of the oldest farmhouses in Bermuda. Constructed by the family of Christopher Carter, one of the island's early settlers, this 17th-century home has been transformed into a museum that showcases the traditional lifestyle of Bermudians. The museum reflects the simple yet joyful life of early islanders.  

#3. Front Street

Front Street is the scenic waterfront promenade that overlooks the harbor. A stroll along this iconic avenue reveals charming colonial buildings adorned in pastel shades of yellow, pink, and blue. These structures are not only visually appealing but also symbolize the local pride and creativity of the Bermudian people. The vibrant colors of Bermuda's architecture trace back to the 17th century, reflecting the islanders' optimistic perspective on life.

#4. Fort Hamilton

Perched on a hilltop on the outskirts of Hamilton, this striking pentagonal fort was built in the 1870s to guard against potential American invasions. It boasts breathtaking views of the harbor and the capital city. The fort's 18-ton cannons were never fired, and the surrounding moat has been transformed into a beautiful green garden. #5. Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity

Renowned for its historical, social, and religious significance, this cathedral also boasts stunning architecture. Located on Church Street and designed by the celebrated Scottish architect William Hay, the cathedral showcases impressive design elements. Construction commenced in 1886 and was completed in 1911.

The majority of the structure is crafted from Bermuda limestone, while its decorative elements feature a distinctive stone imported from France. Ascend the 155 stairs to the top of the tower for a breathtaking panoramic view of Hamilton.
