Cozumel may be small (just 30 miles long and 10 miles wide), but it packs a punch. The possibilities are endless on this beautiful island, so we’ve curated our Top 5 Activities to Experience in Cozumel. Enjoy!

1. Rent an SUV. This is essential. The port in Cozumel offers several trustworthy car rental options. Since these companies frequently serve cruise passengers, they are exceptionally helpful, quick, and friendly! We were off the ship and in an SUV in under an hour, leaving us plenty of time to explore the island! Cozumel is compact, making it easy to navigate (there’s only one main road), and the views are stunning! Plus, the greatest advantage of renting a car is the freedom to stop wherever you want! *Just be sure to allow enough time to return to the ship! 😉

2. Explore the Mayan Ruins of San Gervasio. This was an unexpected stop for us, but as we drove by, the signs piqued our interest. We were absolutely amazed! San Gervasio features the largest ruins on Cozumel, dating back to 100 B.C. These ruins served purely religious purposes, with temples and statues dedicated to Ix-Chel, the goddess of fertility. Women would travel to San Gervasio to offer sacrifices in hopes of receiving fertility blessings. Today, the ruins remain remarkably well-preserved and are truly captivating to explore! While guided tours are available, we found it easy to navigate on our own.

3. Enjoy lunch on the beach. After our visit to the San Gervasio ruins, we headed back down the coast and stumbled upon several restaurants right on the sand! It was perfect timing since we were starting to feel quite hungry! We found a place with a lively atmosphere and settled in. Before long, we were indulging in chips and guacamole, sipping fresh margaritas, and wishing we could freeze this moment in time.

4. Discover a hammock on the beach. Nothing, and we mean NOTHING, beats lounging in a hammock by the ocean after a hearty lunch! Fortunately, there are several places along the Cozumel coastline where you can rent hammocks – and it truly is a delightful experience. We recommend finding one near a local bar where you can…

5. Enjoy fresh coconut water. And capture the moment. This was the ideal way to conclude our day in paradise. The coconuts in Cozumel are huge, and we definitely suggest sharing one! Once you've savored the water, the bartenders will slice it open so you can enjoy the tasty meat inside. Coconut water is our favorite healthy, hydrating, and refreshing treat, and the coconuts here were among the best we’ve ever tasted!
