Founded in 2021, Norse Atlantic provides budget-friendly, no-frills flights to and within Europe. The airline operates a fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners, offering economy and premium cabins (the latter featuring recliner seats with a generous 43-inch seat pitch) and a pay-for-service model. Passengers can expect to pay extra for amenities like checked baggage and meals, with fare options ranging from “Light” (akin to Basic Economy, where checked luggage is not included and in-flight meals come at an additional cost) to “Plus,” which includes free checked bags, meals, and increased flexibility for ticket changes.
In many ways, the airline represents a revival of the transatlantic branch of Norwegian Air, the budget airline that faced challenges after aggressive expansion. Norwegian Air's transatlantic operations were severely impacted by the pandemic in late 2020, leading to its bankruptcy filing after the Norwegian government declined a second financial aid request. By early 2021, Norwegian had halted all transatlantic services. Norse acquired the long-haul unit's assets, including 15 of its Dreamliners, and its management features several former executives from Norwegian Air. Norwegian Air continues to operate within Europe.
Norse Atlantic is actively expanding its transatlantic offerings, recently unveiling new flights to London and a new route between New York and Rome set to launch this fall.
