Packing List for Your Cruise: 5 Must-Haves

When preparing for your cruise getaway, here are 5 essential items every cruiser should have! While I might have included more than 5 items, I aimed for thoroughness and categorized my cruise essentials into 5 key areas. Let’s explore!
Excursion Essentials:
As I plan for various shore excursion adventures, I like to be well-prepared. I always bring a water bottle that can clip onto my day pack, a waterproof case or pouch for my camera or mobile phone, and a pair of binoculars for those relaxing afternoons on my stateroom balcony—perfect for jotting down cruise memories in a notebook or journal. If you prefer not to buy a waterproof case, a zip-lock bag works just fine! As long as you’re not fully submerged, it’s a simple and cost-effective way to protect your phone. Don’t forget to keep your stateroom card handy; a lanyard is a great option to keep it accessible and prevent it from slipping into your day pack.
Essential Medications:
It's crucial to pack all your prescription medications and extra contact lenses for your trip, but I also recommend including some first aid essentials such as blister band-aids (the dangers of new shoes!), antacids, Imodium-type treatments, and hand sanitizer. If you need anything else, you can find it in port or purchase it on board your ship. When you return home with any unused items, keep everything together for your next cruise adventure.
Sun & Beach Essentials:
Whether you’re headed to the sunny Caribbean or the icy landscapes of Alaska, make sure to bring your sunglasses, sunscreen, and a good lip balm. If you're off to warmer destinations, don’t forget a lightweight hat and maybe your own snorkeling gear. I always suggest packing a spare outfit in your carry-on, which could include a swimsuit, shorts, and flip-flops, just in case. If you're traveling with kids, consider bringing inflatable beach toys to keep them entertained. And if you don’t want to carry them back, perhaps gift them to a local family before you leave.
Tech Gear:
Some travelers choose to unplug during their vacations, but I prefer to be fully equipped, which means bringing along a camera or mobile phone, an e-reader, a tablet or laptop, and occasionally a GoPro. Equally important? Chargers for all your devices! Don’t forget to download Dinogo's iConcierge app for messaging fellow travelers, making restaurant reservations, booking shore excursions, and more! For a free way to stay connected, bring along walkie-talkies. If you enjoy music in your room or on the beach, pack a portable Bluetooth speaker.
