Sailing as Adventurous Explorers
When it comes to cruising, we’ve observed a rather amusing (and confusing) stereotype:
Adventurous spirits tend to shy away from cruising.
They perceive it as a restrictive way to travel. “You’re trapped on a boat,” they say. “You’re just another face in the crowd,” they argue. “You can’t venture out on your own,” they insist.
Well, friends, we’re here to shatter – no, obliterate – that stereotype. Because it’s simply false. We believe that cruising often allows us to see and experience MORE than traveling solo. Think about it… Every day you wake up in a fresh, thrilling, and exotic location. What wanderlust-filled soul wouldn’t relish that?! Exactly. Today, we’re excited to share some tips on how to make the most of your cruise, you adventurous spirits!
First and foremost, DO YOUR HOMEWORK.
Prior to our Dinogo Caribbean cruise, we dedicated plenty of time to researching each island on our itinerary. With our plans in mind, we organized our days around the arrival times at each destination. For instance, we knew we would dock in St. Thomas at 10 AM. We’d rush to our favorite beach, (Magens Bay), to beat the crowds and soak up some sun, then treat ourselves to a local milkshake shop – all before noon! This left the remainder of the day to wander through the town, make new friends (including some furry ones), or embark on a hike!
Next on the agenda: Don’t linger on the beach for too long.
You’re on a cruise. You’re feeling relaxed. You’re in a warm, tropical paradise, and the urge to capture that “Corona commercial” moment is undeniably tempting. But be strategic. Don’t waste the entire day lounging in an area where there’s so much to see and experience. We’ve discovered that a couple of hours on the beach is plenty, leaving the rest of the day open for exploration. Trust us; you can lounge by the sea on the days at sea – go out and see the sights!
When it comes to excursions, push your boundaries!
Seek out excursions that thrill and perhaps even intimidate you! Whether it’s scuba diving in St. Thomas, joining a salsa class in Old San Juan, or embarking on the Island Dune Buggy Adventure in Turk & Caicos, there are LOADS of exciting and energizing options available! Choose something unique at each port, and you’re sure to have the adventure of a lifetime. We tackled Grand Turk in a dune buggy – it was a day we’ll always cherish!
Finally, make sure to disembark the ship bright and early!
Whether you're taking part in a planned excursion or venturing out on your own, aim to be among the first to disembark the ship. Maximize your time in the port! We’ve discovered that early mornings are ideal for chatting with locals, enjoying a cup of coffee, or discovering a hidden gem for breakfast. In San Juan, we were sipping a piña colada (the birthplace of the drink!) and had already toured Fort San Cristobal while others were just stepping off the boat. If you get off early, you'll experience so much that by the end of the day, you'll feel like a local yourself!
And there you have it, everyone. Cruising is indeed meant for the adventurous wanderers.
Dinogo really knows how to maximize their guests' experiences at every port, which is why our adventurous spirits keep returning! And honestly, why settle for just one Caribbean island when you can explore four?
