We had an amazing stay at Umi no cottage in Yakushima. The owners were very friendly and the food that the chef made was very tasty. Especially the bath after a long day of hiking in Yakushima was the highlight of our stay. Lastly, they have an insanely cute cat called Nene-chan who we miss dearly.Would definitely recommend to stay here if you visit Yakushima.

Totally worth it to stay at this family owned and operated guesthouse. Wooden cottage with modern amenities, appliances, bath, shower, and washer. Located in a quiet area with beautiful views of the night sky and surrounding area. The host and his wife are amazing and I totally recommend having dinner there at least once.

Private bath, ocean view, short walk away from beach, two onsens nearby. The place is quite remote, some driving distance away from popular Yakushima attractions, but very quiet. We loved it here.

The owner and his wife were lovely and fun, and the cat, Nene, was very friendly and cute. The view was great, the hammock was great, and I could see more stars closer than anywhere else. This might be the first time I've seen a shooting star like this. The Goemon bath with soft water was the best.I always go to hot springs when I travel, but this time I was satisfied with the cottage bath. The breakfast and dinner courses were delicious. It was probably the first time I had eaten a salad with smoked aroma, and the white rice was also delicious. The bed was comfortable, and it was nice to have a washing machine. My sons who love insects were also happy to find stag beetles and beetles at the cottage.

This place is worth staying at for the food alone: both breakfast and dinner were amazing every day. Each cottage has a japanese bath with an ocean view. There is A/C and cooking amenities.Location is in the quieter part of the island, but it has a shop that's accessible by walking, there are 2 onsens close by. 10/10, would stay again.

Overall experience felt personal as it is run by a husband, wife and their family. A beautiful and quiet location nestled in front of the sea and by the island's mountains. Food was great and houses were clean and cozy. Reception and WIFI was also good.

The cottage provided everything we needed for a comfortable family stay, especially with a young child. Every detail, from the well-equipped kitchen to the cozy living space and laundry facilities, showed meticulous attention. Our favorite moments were spent lounging on the deck hammock in the afternoons and enjoying ocean views from the balcony in the morning. While the location was a short walk to a seaside onsen, it was about an hour's drive to areas with more dining options. However, we didn't miss out, as our host, an excellent chef, offered an enticing omakase dinner at the property throughout our stay. He even tailored a special kids plate for our daughter and accommodated my husband's preference for meat dishes over fish. Each night, we eagerly anticipated the multicourse meal. Our hostess, warm and gracious, spoke excellent English and left such a lasting impression on our daughter that she was sad to leave when our stay came to an end.
