The best meat we have had to date in Japan, as well as the best soupmiso. The staff is super nice and attentive. The girl at the reception knows many languages, including Italian and English and her father speaks Spanish. We only tried to eat, since it seems that the accommodation service has not been provided since June 2024.

I stopped by while walking around Kisoji Tsumago-juku.I stopped by because I liked the quaint appearance. When I entered the store, I realized that it was a popular store, with colored papers of famous people all over the place. Also, although it was a tatami room, there were chairs and a table so I didn't have to strain my legs or back.I had Zaru Tororo Soba (1000 yen) and Gohei Mochi (300 yen), and my wife had the Gohei Mochi Zaru Soba Set (1100 yen).It was very delicious with the chewy soba mixed with the soup and melted pork. The Gohei mochi was also delicious, with the grilled miso fragrant and chewy. The main inn seemed to be closed from June 2024.

We have eaten at this restaurant after doing the Nakasendo route from Magome and it was a success. The food, the decoration and the atmosphere are excellent and all this added to the kindness and friendliness of the employees, especially the manager, who is the one we have spoken with the most, makes this a place to return to again. Apart from this, they speak excellent English which makes communication easier. They also have menus in English and Spanish. They have a high chair for babies.

An overall great experience that I would highly recommend. Fyi I booked this about 9 months in advance. We had 2 upstairs rooms with a sitting area facing the front garden and a balcony facing the back. It was a lovely outlook. …

Wonderful ryokan, the hosts are very kind, spoke very good English, and explained everything to us, especially every dish from dinner and breakfast, which was very much appreciated. Dinner was delicious, every dish was beautifully presented. The room was very big and comfortable, and we had an amazing view and balcony over the garden in front of the ryokan. It was a very relaxing stay. (There were steep stairs leading to our room, not a problem for us, but something to be mindful of, maybe other rooms have easier access). Tsumago-Juku is a pretty traditional village. Perfect to hike on the Nakasendo trail to Magome, which is very picturesque.

Can we go back right now?Lovely ryokan run by Sara-san and her family. Impeccable Japanese omotenashi (hospitality), cozy rooms with tatami mats and thick, warm futons, hinoki baths, and the food...the one bite of grilled chicken...just WOW.Be prepared to step back in time and experience traditional Japanese culture without sacrificing modern convenience. The front garden epitomizes zen. What really sets this apart from other accommodations are the thoughtful little touches. There are purple umbrellas to use if you would like to walk in the deserted streets at night in the rain. Every room has a hot water pot as well as a cold pitcher of water along with a tea set with little snacks. It was quiet when we checked in and they suggested that we use the Hinoki baths as soon as possible so we would have it all to ourselves. The kimono robes were comfortable and fun to wear to dinner after the baths.Just an incredible value- this will be a hard experience to beat. From booking onwards, Sara-san was very active and always responded quickly via email. We hope to be back soon! Thank you Sara!

We only had lunch, exceptional hospitality, the owner has lived in Italy for many years and is a very kind person. Special lunch, meat cooked on magnolia leaf, a unique culinary memory. Immersed in the beautiful greenery of the area after the walk from Magome, it is worth a stop.
