Stayed there early September at an onsen room (an indoor and an outdoor onsen just to oursevles!). Food, service and room were amazing. Free parking is available--definitely rent a car--as the place is quite remote and it's fairly easy to drive there if you rent a small car.

Wonderful ryokan! Rented a room with an onsen. Yeah, it was pricey, but it was totally worth it. Midnight dip in the onsen with a sky full of stars... The cuisine, i must mention, though it looked as S-sized potions, in the end i was stuffed. A premium experienceThe only con i can think of is the road right in front of the ryokan - during the day it got quite noisy

I stayed there for one night 11 years ago. I don't recommend it now. Has the management policy changed? Has the management changed? Huh 😱💥 Change in momentum? I will never go there again.

The ryokan is a bit old but it didn't bother us too much. We stayed for one night and really wanted to take a traditional bath in the onsen and experience a kaiseki. We really liked it and the staff was very friendly. The few small negative things were easy to ignore.

I made a reservation, but I had something I wanted to ask and the response I received over the phone was terrible, so I canceled it. At the end of the phone call, there was no greeting such as "Excuse me" or "I'll be waiting for you."

We had such a good time here! I do understand the comments saying that the rooms were a little on the older side but it was very charming. Both the onsen on the rooftop were beautiful, which each room had their own timeslots for to use. We also had two onsen on the balcony of our rooms. It was perfect for us, who wanted to jump in and relax before going on with our journey. It is a little bit further of the typical tourist route but we found it to be easy to get to. I loved the service there, everybody was so nice and attentive and the sweet lady at the reception even helped us with how to get the best route to Kyoto. And the food was a dream, everything was already prepared when we entered our booth. There so much to try out. All in all i would definitely recommend and come back again! For everybody who wants to calm down and relax with the mountains and sky around them

i have stayed in many onsen ryokans in Japan and this ryokan is one of the worst. it's fine if this is a 1 or 2 star inn but it's a 3 star hotel with 5 stars price so it's really disappointing. we almost left and change to another hotel.the building and room is really old, dirty and need an upgrade. there are torn tatami and blinds in the room. the tables are dusty and not cleaned. the towels are all old and thin like they were used for decades. the bathtub were mouldy as well. the shower gel was only 10% left and not refilled during housekeeping. there are spiders and mosquitoes in the room and i was bitten and couldn't sleep throughout the night.the staff at the restaurant were rude and unhelpful to guests.the private outdoor onsen at the balcony is not that private as it is just across the road and cars drove pass could see you when standing up.there wasn't much guests throughout our stay hence made the whole ryokan very quiet and depressing.

It's hard to believe it's a ryokan. ||There are multiple dead insects left in the room. |The room was by far the dirtiest of any inn I've ever stayed at. |There is a difference between worn and dirty shoes. …

When we arrived, there was no customer service such as sweets or tea. There were dead insects all over the room near the window. It would be fine if there were live insects, but I don't understand why they left the dead insects alone. (Not fly level, but definitely more than 1cm)There were black streaks of dirt on the tatami mats, like those left when countless insects were crushed, and I couldn't understand why they were left there, even though they looked like they would come off if I wiped them.As for the meal, for some reason, soup was served twice for dinner, and the amount of rice was as much as if it were an offering to a Shinto altar. What was the point of serving Kashiwamochi at the beginning? As for the breakfast, the pickles, presentation, taste, and appearance were so good that even the supermarkets around here sell more delicious options. As for the shower, did they not check the water heater or was it intentional? The temperature is unimaginably unstable at normal levels. I washed my head with water.
