This is a hot spring inn located in the deepest part of Tsukechi Gorge. There is no electricity or cell phones, and the only means of communication with the world below are limited-time private power generation and satellite cell phones. It takes about 30 minutes to enter the forest road from the national highway, but there are some rough and unpaved areas along the way, so it's best not to go in a large sedan. Nowadays, it's a single-family inn with only Watanai Onsen, but it's surprising to know that until a few decades ago, there was a forest railway line, more than 100 forestry workers lived here, and there was even a theater. There is only one bare light bulb hanging in the room, and there is no TV, refrigerator, or safe. There is only silence. After 10 p.m., the in-house power generation stops, so the light bulb goes out, leaving you with just a lamp. The kotatsu is also made of charcoal, which is rare these days. There are two hot spring baths, one with cold mineral springs heated with firewood and the other with spring water, and it feels good to bathe in them alternately. There is also a shower. Human power using the Goemon Buro method? It's a bit of a shame that you can only take a bath until 8:00 pm since the water is boiling, but it can't be helped. When it comes to lamp inns, the food is often mediocre, but this one was very satisfying in terms of content and quantity, including sashimi and salt-grilled yamame trout, giant gohei mochi, and a huge amount of wildflower tempura. The owner says that when he makes the food, he says, ``If you can eat it all, try it.'' (laughs)What is most noteworthy is the host's hospitality. After dinner, there will be a class on how to use lamps, and you will be able to get involved in various games devised by the host (you can also return to your room). In the morning, after breakfast, you will have to try to hit the target with an air gun, and if you clear the target, you will receive various rewards. Even though it's a lamp inn like this, you'll never feel bored. It's no wonder that more than half of our customers are repeat customers. The park is generally closed from December to March when the forest roads are covered with snow.
