Thanks to the host to give us a warm welcome. The hospitality was fine and designed by their aesthetic. Although it wasn’t close to the station, it doesn’t take much time by taking bus. Highly recommend!

The hospitality and service were first class. It's a little out of the way, which could be a plus if you're after somewhere quiet.

To set the stage. Our family is half Japanese. I lived in total 15-years in Japan and travelled for work with about a hundred nights a year in hotel and other lodgings. I will not go into the details on why I score this place so low but just say that what we booked and what we got was not the same. Initially I was planing a long review with all the nasty details but since, in the end, they tried to make up for some of the mistakes and gave us some compensation I will just leave it with that there are so many good options in Hakone so don’t bother with this one.

I didn't have much information on it, so I'll write a review. It is a lodge-like accommodation with many rooms in one large house. I think the room is close to a youth hostel. There was a 50/50 split of foreign tourists and Japanese people staying there. I think the owner is fluent in English and has a good reputation among overseas tourists. The service was good for the price. I think it's for people in their 20s and 30s.I stayed in Himeshara's room, which was 6.5 tatami mats + loft (4.5 tatami mats), which was a bit small for 4 people, but it was not inconvenient for sleeping. (I made a mistake in the size of the room, so I corrected it)The kids loved the bunk beds and loft. The bed is a simple one, about 10cm thick. It's not a hotel-like bed. There were normal amenities, refrigerator, and towels, so there was no problem.[Good points]・There is a chapel next to the cafe, and it's a very fun space filled with hobbies.・I stayed on July 27th, but I wasn't really worried about insects. There were no mosquitoes entering the room.・I think it's quite cheap in Hakone. For that reason, there was a lot to enjoy, and it was clean, so I recommend it to those who can find merit in that.I think all the hotels in the area with similar prices are old and not very comfortable.・The noise from other rooms didn't bother me.・The breakfast was elaborate and delicious.[What I was curious about]・The parking lot was small. It was packed with 3 units. You'll have to work really hard on the third one.・Bath and breakfast times seem to be on a first-come, first-served basis. If you arrive late, your bath time will be around 9:00pm or 10pm, and your breakfast will be around 8:30am.・I don't think you can find it unless you search for Mori Cafe. The entrance was just around the corner from the main street.

Very disappointing experience, even more so given the asking price. The exterior of the house seems abandoned, the pedestrian entrance (when you arrive with the bus), made us hesitate, we thought we had arrived in a public dump (see photos). The garden is on the edge of the dump where we find in bulk: a wheelbarrow, steel, pieces of concrete, a wooden pallet, etc... Where we are supposed to be able to rest peacefully outside.. So this will be the view you will have from your room. The room is minimalist, once the sofa bed is unfolded, it is difficult to put more than one bag down. The two futon beds on the mezzanine cannot accommodate adults, the roof is too low and the stairs are extremely steep, even dangerous for carrying suitcases up.There is lots of dust, which caused us to have repeated sneezing fits.Pleasure of sharing sanitary facilities and bathroom: the two sinks are on the landing of the 4 bedrooms, you have no separation and therefore no privacy, everyone passes by you when you want to wash your teeth or your face .There is only one shower, for more than 10-15 people.... And the shower looks like a broom cupboard, no space, it is difficult to move in such a narrow space. As a result, reserving the Onsen remains the only option to obtain a space to wash without bumping into the walls. But you have to book, and wait for the time when you can wash..........In the evening, depending on the neighbors of your room, it will be quiet or not at all: there is no soundproofing, those who come home late wash and talk in front of your room since this is where the "bathroom" is located. ".Finally, when you get up, you will have the right to breakfast, served either at 8 a.m. or 8:30 a.m., no other time possible. This breakfast is frankly not to Western tastes, and there is no possible alternative. It would be a minimum to offer other solutions, even if only a little sandwich bread and jam..... If you don't eat miso soup, or cold ramen for breakfast, plan to buy something at 7-Eleven the day before....Finally, if you feel like taking a walk or going to a restaurant, you will discover that the location is out of the way and on the edge of a busy road with very narrow sidewalks, which will leave you little leisure. to stroll nearby....Anyway, nothing to do here, you have to take a bus to cover even the slightest kilometer if you don't want to get run over by the cars passing here.In short, it's better to take a room in a real hotel, at Gora Station, it's prettier and closer to the activities.

It was one night and two days, breakfast included.Eating breakfast on the balcony is very relaxing. The guest room feels like a room in a normal apartment. The bath is not a hot spring, but you can relax by renting it out.Dogs are cute, but they bark!

Not only did we have a luxurious breakfast, but the homemade cake, ginger ale, and matcha tea we received at the cafe were all delicious! The interior is very elaborate and uses crafts, and the retro atmosphere and forest atmosphere are soothing.During the evening BBQ, we had lively conversations around the bonfire with other guests! This kind of thing doesn't happen often at other hotels, so I would like to go there again! The puppy was cute too!

Hot spring bath: You can make a reservation for 1 hour in advance and use it privately. The bathroom is spacious enough for two people to lie down and stretch their legs, so we thoroughly enjoyed the hot spring bath.Room: I used a duplex room, and the size of the room was larger than expected, and the windows were large and the facilities were new, so it was really nice. However, the toilet and sink were shared, but there were two of them, so there was no inconvenience at all.Breakfast: Breakfast was Western food, but it was plentiful and they gave us extra toast, saying it wasn't enough.Additional service: For an additional 300 yen per person, you can rent comfortable clothes (one-piece clothing is available for men as well)The place that was originally used as a chapel is now open to guests, and it is so cute and nicely decorated that it is great for taking pictures. In addition, the entire accommodation is well decorated, and the tea corner on the second floor has game tools and amenities that you can freely use.Amenities: Plastic hair comb, ear plugs, toothbrush, toothpaste, 2 towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, cleansing oil, toner, lotion, etc. You don't need to bring any washing utensils.Staff: One man and one woman mostly worked the front desk, but they were both very friendly and spoke English, which was nice!Location: From Hakone Yumoto Station, take the bus bound for Togendai (Platform 3) with a free pass for about 20 minutes. It is located 1 minute away from the stop. Box Burger is also right nearby, so it was very convenient. However, the entrance is piled with construction materials. It was a bit hard to see because it was at the back of the building, but there is a wooden sign hanging at the entrance that says mori no yado, so it would be a good idea to come in after seeing it.Overall review: It was a really great accommodation and I would use it again if I go to Hakone.
