Don’t be swayed by the location, it’s just 20 minutes walking from one train line, 10 from another. The neighbourhood is cute and quaint and gave us a lovely other side to Kyoto and Japan versus the big city bustle. Craig and Helen were both lovely, particularly Craig’s helpful local tips about the attractions and food options in Kyoto were excellent. His lunch recommendation was my favourite meal of our 12 day trip! Craig’s breakfast was incredible - full of flavour and a great size. The coffee and tea options kept us buzzing and happy. The cats, when they visited made it feel so homey! Our room was spacious and the beds gave me a wonderful and comfortable sleep. Thank you Craig and Helen for providing such a wonderful place to call a home away from home!

Craig and Helen were great hosts and talented cooks. Was nice to have a chat with some fellow Aussies in Japan over breakfast and hear about their stories and advice. The minshuku is a lovely and modern house, it is a beautifully constructed high quality building, a pleasure to stay there. Slightly tricky location but once you know where the bus stop is you can get to Kyoto city centre without too much difficulty, and not too hard to walk to Kyoto JR station if you are unencumbered. All the best C&H

Returning customer after 6 years. Stayed 2 nights during the Summer. Was so impressed with the first visit that I had to bring my partner for the return stay.Had anything changed since my last stay? Yes, the breakfast rivals that to a restaurant now. The presentation of the food, the taste and variety everyday day really sets a positive tone for exploring Kyoto. My partner and I are not vegans, but you won't miss the meat or seafood. It is really that good. The rooms are clean and turning the AC on prior to our stay in our bedroom made going to the room very pleasant and was a nice touch. We arrived earlier then the check in time and were greeted with warm smiles and cool drinks. The knowledge that Helen and Craig have is amazing. They were able to help us out scope the best vantage places to see the Gion Matsuri and also recommended some tasty vegan restaurants. The location may not be central, but is close to Kiyomizudera and some less known (by tourists) shrines.Definitely would return the next time I visit Japan.

We had an excellent 2-night stay here! Craig greeted us and immediately had recommendations for us. He and Helen were wonderful hosts. The rooms were beautiful and clean and felt so peaceful. Breakfast set was great, and we met some other travellers and had nice conversations. Craig was always around and so nice to talk to. Location is a bit of a walk to get to with luggage so we took a cab, but otherwise walkable to bus, train, and a few shrines! Highly recommend.

Nice quiet neighborhood, wonderful people and place. Not far from Fushimi and mountain temples on the east side of Kyoto. Great vegan breakfast. You may have to direct your taxi driver a bit, mine had trouble finding the small side street so I usually had them park about 50m away and walked it. No big deal.
