I’ve stayed here for 2 nights with my friends. The view was spectacular and room was very detailed oriented. The roof top has amazing views and we could buy our own drinks and drink at the roof top and chat. There were free bike rentals and we rented and rode to the souvenir street for shopping. I ran running in the morning along the river. It was so nice and peaceful. It’s a very good hotel and I hope we can come back again soon.P.s. the miso soup in Japanese breakfast set was the best miso soup I’ve ever tried. 😋

Genji is a small hotel overlooking the river. It is a little hard to find (even for our taxi driver) but has the advantage of being very quiet with no street noise. The hotel has a very pleasing modern architecture with some garden. Our room (302) was spacious with both a full height table and a half height table. The room was modern and nicely decorate and lit. We had a view over the river and desk with table and chairs. The bathroom was well appointed with good lighting, a great shower, and a tub.The bed had lighting controls and electric outlets built in.My only serious complaint is that the bed is so close to the wall on one side that in order to get into bed you had to climb up from the foot of the bed. This was really awkward, especially in the middle of the night when trying to no waken one's partner. :-)The staff were very friendly and helpful with restaurant recommendations. They made us feel welcome. The breakfasts (Japanese and Western) were very nicely done. You can eat in the lobby, your room, or the rooftop terrace (recommended in good weather). The hotel serves other meals but we went out. I still haven't tried their wasabi martini but would like to.

Love this small boutique hotel. Great service, delicious breakfast & beautiful room. Though location is not within the Central Area, it’s still within walking distance from Kyoto station. Will definitely stay there again when in Kyoto.

2024.09.30I am glad I returned to stay here for the second time, this time with my two children. We had absolutlely the best experience. Not only were the rooms super clean and comfortable as ever, but they have been enhanced with more charming details. Our breakfast and meals were delicious and beautifully presented. The staff recognized us, and were helpful, efficient and friendly in a way that you feel is coming from their hearts. They looked after us in every way, showing us the bus and train stations and providing suggestions for restaurants and activities. I totally recommend this hotel to anyone who appreciates good design and good people, not to mention beautiful gardens, free bicycles and free self-service laundry. This is surely our home away from home in Kyoto!2023I stayed 5 days at this boutique hotel and tried out both their city view and river balcony rooms. It was the most satisfying experience. The staff are like my old friends now. They all made me feel so at home, tending to my every need. They made hot honey lemon for me on big snow days, and coffee with oat milk every morning. The breakfasts and everything on their menu were delicious. They provided yukata, pyjamas, Dyson hair dryers, top grade green tea and the free self-service laundry. When it was too cold to go out I watched Netflix in my room, which had a writing desk, a dining table and a tatami area with incredibly stylish and comfortable tatami chairs. On warmer days I used their free bicycles and rode up and down the beautiful Kamo River. I also walked to places like Kyoto Station, Gion, Nishiki Market and even Kiyomizu Temple. The location is fantastic for exploring Kyoto! This was the greatest travel experience I ever had and I would recommend this wonderful hotel to anyone wanting to have a memorable time in Kyoto.

This is a charming hotel that is classy and comfortable. Even though its architecture is contemporary, it has design details that reference traditional features and techniques. Their Japanese garden in the lobby has a back wall that looks like wood, but is actually concrete with imprinted wood patterns. It was so cool! Our room was spacious with very comfortable beds, and the view was just amazing. Looking at the birds and fish and turtles on the river was really fun and calming. But the best part was getting to know the wonderful staff. They all speak English well and are incredibly friendly and helpful. We are grateful to them for a most memorable trip.

We stayed at Genji for NYE with our 4yo son and it was perfect! The staff were friendly and welcoming from the moment we stepped in the door. The room was stunning, with a comfy bed, large TV and traditional sitting / dining space. The bathroom was amazing, giving you feeling of a serene rock garden in your room.Unfortunately, we didn't get to enjoy the rooftop garden due to weather, but it was a beautiful space to relax and enjoy views of Kyoto. The breakfast was greta, with choices of Western or Japanese, served in your room, the dining room or the rooftop garden. We absolutely loved our stay here!
