This is such a fun and unique way to stay in Kyoto! The house was the perfect size for our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids). It was so nice to have a washing machine and kitchen available for our stay and there were detailed English instructions on how to use everything. We loved the location of this machiya. It was in a fairly quiet part of Higashiyama, but also walking distance to a train station and several shops. It’s about a 10 minute taxi ride to Kyoto station.

Absolutely incredible Machiya in Kyoto. The space is amazing, more than enough room for our family of 3 - with a western style bedroom with a firm and comfy large bed, and a Japanese style bedroom with 2 very comfortable futons. The bath is beautiful and large, the shower with firm water pressure and very nice space and toiletries. Also so nice to have 2 toilets. The design is beautiful, with a lovely inner planted courtyard room and space in the home is plentiful. Provided toiletry bags were an added bonus. The Machiya is perfectly located in Kyoto for easy walking access to all areas and metros. Key access, check-in and check-out were all very simple. Will absolutely return to this Machiya next time we visit Kyoto. I could not recommend more highly.

A fantastic location from which to explore the old area, our family thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Very peaceful being away from the road and there were some nice aesthetic touches (e.g. lighting) which made the house feel special. If we had to pick one thing to improve, it would be more cushions are needed on the main room couches. Staff extremely helpful when checking in and the orientation documents were clear.

My family of 4 had a wonderful stay at Meike guesthouse. Situated just south of the main Gion area, it is down the hill from Kiyomizu-dera it provided a central point for our 3 day stay in Kyoto. Accommodation is nicely appointed with compact kitchen/laundry and comfortable lounge area. Steep narrow stairs to top bedroom floor. Bathroom area has good amenities including a lovely large blue round bath for a good soak after a long day of walking. Western Beds were comfortable although pillows were a bit hard for us. Teenagers slept on futons. Keypad entry easy to use. We enjoyed night time walks with less crowds around and recommend the local cafe and bakery nearby too. Thanks for a great stay. Recommended!

It was easy to see the sights as there were many famous places within walking distance. The interior was stylish and I was very satisfied with my stay. I was particularly impressed with the lighting in the Japanese bedroom. The only thing I had a hard time with was adjusting the temperature in the bath, so it would have been helpful if there was an easy-to-understand explanation in advance. On the second day, I set the water heater to 60 degrees and set the lever on the wall to the highest temperature, and by the time I got into the bathtub, it was at the right temperature.Everything else was good.

The old folk house has been renovated to fit a modern lifestyle, and I was able to enjoy the typical Kyoto atmosphere. There was a chair that I liked, and the display was very attractive. It would have been better if the temperature of the bath was a little higher and if there were some seasonings etc.thank you very much.

Perhaps because it's a little off the street, it was very quiet and I was able to spend a relaxing time there. While the exterior retains the quaint atmosphere of a townhouse, the interior was very clean and spacious.I felt that it was a good location, with easy access and being able to walk to nearby tourist spots. If I had to complain about one thing, it would be that it was difficult to understand how to use the bath. Other than that, there were no particular concerns.I felt that the service was solid and the quality of work was high.

The space was clean, nicely renovated, and had a great shower and tub. The staff were very helpful with luggage delivery and recommendations for restaurants and things to do nearby. They were also extremely quick to resolve a minor issue with the washing machine and they were very kind overall.

The luggage delivery service was good. The stairs are steep so it would have been nice to have a handrail.
