Deer lodge was the perfect accommodation for our holiday in Hakuba in late February, with the slopes out the back door for easy ski in and ski out. …

Great spot under happo resort with easy access to a lift nearby. Plenty of buses stop nearby to take you to surrounding resorts as long as you know how they work. Met and had a good relationship with the owner Graeme who constantly checked in on our stay to ensure a good experience.

Backpackers lodging would be preferable to this. A prison, I’d imagine, would also be. If you can manage to liaise with the host then there’s a 50% chance (as was in our group) that you’ll instantly get an ill toward feeling that will set the stage for your stay here. The beds will give you a lumbar problem. You won’t be issued a key to secure your room. You can wash your hands and then unless you take your own towel you’ll have to dry them on your clothes. They haven’t even bothered to replaced the ripped shower curtain or repaired the men’s urinal. Deer lodge has also redefined what a continental breakfast is- only cereal whole milk and toast. If you want any form of protein fruit or yogurt you’ll need to walk 5km to get it. The waiting staff were pleasant. At least we’re leaving soon.

Deer Lodge is a budget stay, no-thrills hostel-style accommodation perfectly situated adjacent to the Happo-One resort but not quite ski in/ski out as advertised. …

We are a family of 7 and stayed at Deer Lodge January 2017, both rooms were large, clean and comfortable, but as far as positives go, that's about it. …

Had a great week at deer lodge, snow was amazing and can snowboard straight from the mountain to 10m from the door. Bronwyn is extremely friendly and helpful, and even drove and assisted me at the clinic when I broke me arm. Food, bars and ski rental are all super close, as well as the shuttles into town and other mountains.

We shared 2 rooms as a family of 5 and had a very enjoyable stay, we were expecting youth hostel style basic but the beds were comfy, brilliant heating and very friendly and helpful staff that assisted with booking tours, restaurants and even a driver on hand (for a small fee).Perfect family stay. Direct access the ski field.
