we loved staying here for two nights. it’s located in a small town near Mt. Minobu. the locals are so sweet and welcome foreigners. the beds were soooo comfortable! my only complaint are there are a lot of mosquitos so bring your insect repellent! absolutely would come here again. you’ll find a nice, peaceful reprieve from the tourist cities by coming here.

Part of a larger temple complex, it provides temple lodging and a huge range activities. Not as well known Wakayama it's very under subscribed and you can get many places to yourself even later in the day.The staff here are genuinely warm and even though I've only been here 3 days I'm going to miss them more than this beautiful place. If you want to experience temple lodgings , morning prayers, activities, amazing vegetarian food, local beer and wine and tranquil countryside in the tranquil foothills of the Japanese Alps, definitely consider coming here.

The hospitality of the staff was excellent. It was a weekday in September, and perhaps because it was a little early for the autumn leaves, there weren't many customers. …

Preferential treatment for foreign tourists and hosts who know each otherThis is a lodging inn where Japanese regular guests are treated coldly. In particular, several old men who seemed to be acquaintances of the host were drinking until after 1 a.m. and making so much noise that I couldn't sleep.I had to get up early because I wanted to attend work at 5:30 the next morning. At the breakfast table, there were name tags for both foreigners and old men who knew the hosts, but we didn't have any, so it was a bit unpleasant. We do not recommend staying at this hotel for sensible Japanese people.

The setting is absolutely gorgeous. The bedroom is traditional and lovely, much better than I expected, and the futon is incredibly comfortable. It's an easy walk up to the temples or walk down into the village, 10-15min uphill or downhill. The bathroom situation is also amazing, shower and a hot bath every day which makes you skin so soft. You get a yukata to wear around the hotel, which was lovely for dinner after a long day walking through the mountains. The food is traditional Japanese, I loved it though if you are expecting a Western dinner/breakfast this is not for you. Minobu is such a quiet and atmospheric place, it was totally worth the trip from Tokyo and I came back to the capital completely refreshed.

If you want to get AWAY from it All, this is your place! Located in the mountains, surrounded by much vegetation lies a beautiful Buddhist escape that is Clean, Organized, and original. The rooms do not have their own bathrooms, and my wife is picky with having her own, But this was not an issue due to the toilets and sinks proximity to the rooms and it's wonderful cleanliness. As for showers, you place yourself on a schedule for a shower which is a 30min time block in a large shower area, with it's own Onsen to soak, relax, then shower. Shower is ALL to yourself, so no worries. Great experience!Meals are served in the dining area and are vegan based but delicious and nicely filling, and I'm not a vegan either. After dinner, we were fortunate to be treated to a Buddhist ritual which felt personal as it required participation from the guests to perform. The accommodations are VERY comfortable with ample space in each room and there are Not many units on the property so YES, book in advance! Especially, due to the remote location, Do Not show up without a reservation. As for the staff, AMAZINGLY pleasant and helpful in every way, from check in to the dining served by the Buddhist monks themselves the experience felt personal and inviting. At 4:40am, optional, we were invited to meet in the lobby area to do a brisk walk to the main Buddhist Temple nearby to watch a service, starting with the ringing of the main bell 🔔 at 5:00am and then the Beautiful temple service thereafter.Overall, this part of our trip to Japan is VERY memorable in every good way, and one I recommend for anyone seeking solitude, quiet, and remote beauty. ENJOY!
