As you walk down the narrow road from the bus stop, passing Sekizenkan on your left and going up the slope (the slope may be tough for the elderly and in winter...), you will find Shima Tamura-ya, a long-established inn with a thatched roof building as its landmark. We visited this place in Gunma Prefecture in search of a hot spring resort with a landscape rich in greenery. The building is made up of several buildings (Kanwakukan, Kowakukan, and Suiwakan), and although the buildings are old and damaged in some places, the large rooms are kept well-maintained, and there is no dust or dirt near the windows. There were no insects to be seen, giving a good impression. There are 7 hot springs, each with a different source, and the quality of the spring water is basically colorless and transparent and soft (this is just my personal opinion). The temperature may vary depending on the time of day and environment, but it felt a little hot. All of them had their own characteristics and were enjoyable, including the scenery. However, be aware that it may take some time to get to your destination if you are not used to the facility, and that not all bathhouses have security lockers or washing areas. As for meals, we were provided with a private room as part of our accommodation plan, and the couple were able to enjoy seasonal Japanese kaiseki meals in the morning and evening. The inn had a lot of flavor, including the blue color of the Shima River and the surrounding scenery.

First, the toilet was clogged and a mess.I received a walking map and when I went to the store I was looking for, it was closed despite the opening hours.Dinner was served in a private room and was both delicious and visually appealing.

I stayed in a room with a cypress bath.Good points・All the staff had good customer service.・The entrance smells very nice・Room is spacious and well-cleaned (no view)・Check-out time is 11am.・Steam bath is good・Just the right amount of breakfastBad points・There was no hot water in the bath in the room.・Hot spring water is added (due to high temperature)・It is extremely far from the room to each bathhouse.・Free drinks are too sweet to drink・Very disappointing about the buffet (customer base)Anyway, I wanted to take a bath in my room and get some sleep. After checking in, I thought I'd take a bath in my room, but to my surprise, the bathtub was empty. My plan was to take a relaxing bath in my room and then take a nap until dinner. The facility's bathhouse was hot and had water added to it, so I was looking forward to the room bath without adding water. I gave up and took it out, and had no choice but to go to a far away bathhouse. Although it was watered down, it had some punching power, but even when I got back to my room, I couldn't resist it. Just have dinner. I'm about halfway back from dinner. It was 10pm when I finally got inside. The plan was to go to bed at 10 o'clock. It's true that the temperature is high, so I think the hotel was careful not to get burned by storing hot water. I also have my preferences. If I had known from the beginning that they weren't storing hot water, I should have asked them to store some if possible. The only good thing was the hot spring steam bath.Even though it was Kaiseki, the portions seemed to be a lot, so we opted for a buffet where you can adjust the amount. If you have a breakfast only plan or a plan with a smaller portion. It just didn't meet my expectations. It is surprisingly difficult to find an inn that offers modest meals, no heating, no water addition, no circulation, no disinfection, and rooms with private baths.

This is a long-established inn where you can enjoy seven baths with different hot springs. It is true that the main building is an ancient structure with a thatched roof and tatami mats inside, and the interior of the building, which has been added to this, is clean but has an old Japanese architecture. The room is a Showa-style Japanese room about 15 tatami mats in size and has an indoor cypress bath sourced from Shima Onsen. However, not all shower toilets are old-fashioned.The inside of the building is like a maze, but since it is on a slope, I guess this is inevitable. There are seven baths for each source, and each seems to be different, but the one that is most different is the Iwane hot spring, which has a metasilicon scent similar to the Kuroyu hot spring in Yoro Valley in Boso.I was also surprised at how well the food was prepared and the elaborate finish.Be sure to try the bite-sized wine set. This kaiseki course has accommodation costs and hot springs, but this is the best value for money class!

One of the three famous gastrointestinal hot springs in Japan♨️There are 7 hot springs in the building, and although I wasn't able to conquer them all, I enjoyed them as much as I could before, after, and in the morning. After resetting our minds and bodies in the hot springs, we relaxed and enjoyed meals and had a luxurious time.We recommend the open-air bath (Mori no Kodama) with a view of the waterfall.

A family of three stayed in a room with a private bathroom.Hot spring water is hot. There are six hot springs, but you can only bathe properly in the large public bath. Also, the inn is too large and the distance from the room to the hot spring is too far.The hot springs are located in different locations, so you can get lost.
