Maruya held an important position in Shimosuwa-juku as Wakihonjin. It is said to have been founded around 1689 (Genroku 2), and has been around for 300 years since its founding. I have been running an inn in this area. From 1804 (Bunka 10) in the middle of the Edo period, he served as a regular wakihonjin joyaku, and continued to play this role until the abolition of the post station system in 1880.The Maruya building was restored in 1993 as an inn for the former Wakihonjin, incorporating the architectural style of traditional inns based on ancient documents and drawings. This is a rare inn where only three groups can stay overnight. The bath and hot water are good, and the room is spacious and relaxing, making you feel like you're at your grandparents' house. Please enjoy a relaxing moment in your room.

It's a wonderful inn, calm atmosphere, rooms, well-cleaned rooms, and bathrooms. There is no musty odor at all, and this maintenance is excellent. And the food is amazing! We carefully make local and seasonal items. There is no fancy atmosphere at all, so it is recommended for those who want to relax and relax. The water is a little hot, but it's still good.

I think this is a rare inn these days that doesn't have any frills. It's a good place to relax because it's mysterious and I don't feel like doing anything if I don't have anything to do. Also, if I say so myself, I think people who are used to traveling will be satisfied with this accommodation. The food was really local and the seasoning was simple and good. There are some rare ingredients, but I think it's good that they don't sell them. Although there is no open-air bath, it is essentially a private bath and the quality of the spring water was very satisfying.

The food used local ingredients and was very delicious. There were only two groups staying in the bath, so we reserved it for ourselves. The water was a little hot, but once I got used to it, I slowly poured it in.

My wife went there over ten years ago, but it was my first time. It's a prestigious inn. There are 3 guest rooms where you can relax. In particular, the meal was very delicious, with the host serving a lot of wild vegetables that he had personally picked in the fields, and I was happy to be able to taste many wild vegetables that I had never eaten before. The coffee made by the hostess is also good. I also appreciate your friendly personality. Please note that there are no chairs in the room. I think it's a bit difficult for people with bad knees. (There was a low chair in the hearth room where we had breakfast, so I was allowed to use it.)

A charming hot spring inn that only sees 2 or 3 groups of guests a day. I would give it 7 to 8 stars instead of 5 stars. Knowing this place, even if I went to another hotel, I would not be able to give it 5 stars. The bath is reserved for private use, and although it is not an open-air bath, it has an atmosphere that cannot be described in words. The meals are traditional local dishes centered around freshwater fish, vegetables, and horse meat, and are incredibly delicious. They ask river fishermen to go all the way upriver to catch sweetfish and other fish (there are apparently days when they can't catch anything). What is most noteworthy is the landlady, who is so adorable that anyone who sees her can't help but fall in love with her. It is a treasure to have a technology that is so loved now. I would like to pass on her know-how to all hot spring inns and people involved in hospitality. I hope it becomes a special program on Netflix or some other video media.Oh, I want to go again soon.

The facilities are well maintained and comfortable. The hot springs that flow directly from the source were especially good. The food was not fancy, but it was delicious and made with local ingredients.Although I was traveling with children, I didn't get the impression that children were welcome, so I felt that this facility was suitable as an adult-only accommodation.

Normally, three groups are allowed to stay overnight, but currently they are limiting the number to two groups per day to prevent infection.Dinner was prepared in a room right next to my guest room, and in the morning I was seated at least 2 meters away from the other group. The bath can also be reserved for private use, so you can relax and have peace of mind without meeting many other people. As soon as I arrived, they served me some matcha (light tea?) in my room, and it had a mild bitterness and was very delicious. Each dish was carefully prepared, with lots of wild vegetables and local ingredients that were good for the body, and the soup stock was well-balanced and very delicious. It's a short walk to the lower shrine of Suwa Taisha Shrine, and there is Shintsuruya Main Store, which is famous for its famous salt yokan confectionery, and you can buy other fresh sweets other than salt yokan, which were also very delicious. This is an inn that I would like to visit again.

This is a historical inn that was a Wakihonjin during the Edo period. The entire building has been renovated and is comfortable. The cuisine is traditional Japanese cuisine. The hot springs are free-flowing. The size of the bathtub is just right and the temperature is right.
