Great location and nice food but the staff are a bit uptight (at least the one I experienced was). Has private parking too which is essential if visiting Ouchijuku by car

The services by the inn owner was simply excellent. The accommodation is unique, and their food serving was very good. Overall I enjoyed my stay there mainly by their hospitality. The lady boss is very attentive to our needs and go the extra mile for us. In one instance, we asked to have our sake warm up using the hearth, which was something they have not done before. But she was so willing to find the right wares and method to make it happen, and we are truly appreciative of her desire to meet our needs.

One of the two guesthouses in Ouchi-juku. Located right in the middle of the townscape with its traditional thatched roofs, you can enjoy a relaxing stay in a picturesque setting while watching tourists return home. The room I chose is 6 tatami mats long. There is no wide veranda like in a hotel, and the bath and toilet are shared, but it is enough for two people to spend time together. Perhaps because it was cold just the other day, there was a kotatsu and a fan heater in the room, so it would be warm even in the middle of winter. When you go out after checking in, don't leave your keys with you and carry them with you. Both dinner and breakfast were locally sourced, and although they were luxurious, the portions were not unnecessarily large and were just right for our elderly guests. This is because when I was on a trip to Izu the other day, I was served a luxurious boat platter so large that I literally vomited, and a whole fish boiled in large pieces.I chose the latter, whether I wanted to leave it or eat it all, even if it made me sick, and the next morning. The same kind of breakfast was served and it was inedible. There's no need to talk about SDGs, but I don't want to waste food and I want to think about my body. The quantity and quality were perfect for us. It's quiet and relaxing at night, and the next morning's meal is just the right amount, delicious, and very satisfying. The baths, which are reserved for individual rooms by the hour, are very clean. You won't be sharing with people in other rooms. The shared toilets include one men's urinal and a unisex Western-style toilet on the first floor, and one women's-only toilet on the second floor. All of the toilets are relatively new and have automatic hot water flushing toilet seats, so they are very clean and don't give you the old feeling you might expect from the building. There were no unpleasant odors, and due to the size of the building, there was a limit to how many people could stay at the same time, so I never had to wait to use the restroom. The official website says self-deprecatingly that there are insects, but I didn't see any during my stay. The staff is kind and the prices are low. This is definitely an inn I can recommend. (Some expressions were misleading, so I have corrected them.)

It was a great experience to stay in a traditional building that is an important cultural property. You can clearly see that this house has been carefully protected since ancient times. The food was delicious and the bath was nice and hot. However, although there are shampoo bars in the bathroom, most of them were empty, so I wonder if they neglect to refill them. Also, I had to turn off the heating every time I left the room, and the bathroom and guest room were extremely cold when I entered. . I told them my check-in time and called them before I arrived, so I thought it would be nice if they could warm up the room a little, but since it's a guesthouse, it can't be helped.

R5.9.18 AccommodationDinner at the inn.It was quite a large amount.Everything was really delicious 🎵This may be my first time trying chawanmushi with so many ingredients. Of course it’s delicious 😋🍴💕Also, the rockfish that she grilled in the irori hearth was really huge, and when I told her about it, she told me that today's fish was especially big. It was seriously awesome. The yuzu sorbet at the end was also full of fruit pulp (lol)It was a really satisfying meal 🎵

As of May 28, 2020, the thatched roof was being replaced. This is a valuable traditional work, so why not take a look?It will be a great experience to get a glimpse of the painstaking efforts that the people of Ouchi-juku take to maintain their houses, and to feel the hardships that go on behind the scenes of a glamorous tourist destination.

Thank you to the owner of the B&B for your hospitality, and also to my friend who speaks Japanese for helping us book a room and making a taxi reservation at the B&B. We got off the plane from Tokyo for our honeymoon in mid-February and went straight there. We were worried that we would not be able to get to Ouchi-juku. The journey to Ouchi-juku was full of ice and snow until the evening. Well, everything went well. Staying in the B&B for one night was a really special experience. It also allowed us to see the beautiful snow scenery. The dinner and breakfast were both very delicious. I will come again if I have the opportunity. Thank you.
