Waldhotel Gille Boxbach

Childhood memory! Back in the 70s/80s I cycled there with my parents and siblings! Ate ice cream, drank Fanta and petted the ponies! A little older then cycled and rode with friends! So beautiful there! Will be back soon! I'm looking forward to it :)

Due to a large number of guests, we had to wait quite a long time for our food. But it was worth it.

Disclaimer: If you want to know how I rate Boxbach in 2023, you should skip straight to the end.But if you don't want to miss the entire suspense, you shouldn't allow yourself to jump from the text.In April 1974, during the Easter holidays, the family was together and we moved to Boxbach. Back then, the Boxbach was already known for the fact that entire buses of coffee-thirsty gasps from the Ruhr area and similarly underprivileged regions would unload here on weekends and holidays.We also found ourselves here. My grandparents and my aunt also wanted to treat me to something; I was 12 years old at the time and bored with the family routine during the holidays. At the Boxbach you could rent ponies and “ride” them. The circular route led a few hundred meters up the valley towards Hesselbach and back on the other side. My grandfather led the pony because I had no control over it myself. Anyway, I was excited about the opportunity to sit on a horse. This even led to me taking real riding lessons in the following summer holidays, at the Kunst-Wittgenstein in Laasphe, with the riding instructor Hammwöhner, originally from Beckum. But that's another story.In the summer of 1999 it happened again: this time, however, my wife and I led the ponies and my children sat on them; we were back in the Boxbach.And today we were there again, but on bikes. The Boxbach inn seemed closed (lunchtime), but when we tentatively rang the bell, the woman opened the door and brought us the coffee we had been longing for. The inn is only open at lunchtime on weekends and only in the evening on weekdays.We were happy to be able to rest and strengthen ourselves after the strenuous drive up and before the even more strenuous drive up to Hesselbach to the poor man (recommendation: at least a torpedo three-speed gearbox).By the way, Boxbach is a child-friendly company. Not only can the children experience the farming and livestock farming here, but there is also a large playground and plenty of exercise space while parents and adults can indulge in physical pleasures. By the way, there are still ponies on the Boxbach.I give full marks for the friendliness of the landlady, the quality of the coffee, the close-to-nature and family-friendly atmosphere and the wonderful memories of 1974.

A wonderful place to take a break in the middle of nature. Cars only pass by every now and then, so only the sounds of birds or children playing reach your ears. The service is down to earth and very friendly. A good place for families with children.

Unfortunately, it used to be a popular excursion destination with a great atmosphere. Today I'm just taking a break there to celebrate. There isn't much left around the building. Unfortunately, time has also stood still inside. The rooms and tables were very cramped, there wasn't much room at the table. The service was sometimes a bit demanding and the food selection was poor. Disaster for children, the simplest fries were not served. The other dishes, especially children's plates, were over-seasoned and over-fried. Unfortunately for me, this is once again confirmation that I will only go there for a celebration upon invitation.
