You book this hotel to have the stunning view from your hotel room. Waking up directly above the Elbe is a great experience.Rest of the hotel (room style, breakfast, bar, …) is more on high average level. The hotel staff was really helpful and we were even allowed to stay in the room a little longer next morning. All in all we had a nice night in hotel living from its stunning location.

Very cool location, friendly staff and a cool roof top bar with a view over the river Elbe. So far, so good ... but the room has no AC and is hot. Additionally, it is so incredible loud that I hardly slept during the four-night stay. The windows seem to have zero noise protection and the cobblestone road does it job. Certainly will not stay here again. The added video was taken at 03:40 am with open window due to the heat, with closed window it is not significantly quiter.

We had a nice, clean, beautifully remodeled room, though it was quite small with the bathroom door opening right into the bed. The toilet and shower use a suction system due to the proximity to the river, and it is super loud, like on an airplane. Being only about 4 feet from the bed means every time the toilet is flushed anyone still asleep is suddenly awakened. It was also quite warm in the room with no AC but we did have a fan.Positives were that the view of the port area was just incredible and the weather was clear so we where able to leave the windows open. The old restored nature of this building is also remarkable. The walls in our room were mostly brick and very nicely done. The restaurant upstairs is super good and the outdoor bar area is an excellent place for watching ships go by. The front desk service was always a bit questionable (i.e., no one around, no check-in ready, no keys available) but with all the soccer/football goings on, I guess it was just very distracting. All things considered, we'd stay here again, maybe during the cooler part of the year and in a larger room, and a view of the river is a must. The view and activities here, plus the restaurant and bar, make it worth it.

Tiny rooms the size of a dorm, way too warm on a warm day (no ac). Interior rooms face a courtyard and feel cramped. The bathroom is poorly designed (no hooks, nowhere to put a towel!). The plumbing uses some sort of absurdly loud vacuum system every time you use water. The bed was fine, the place is clean, breakfast was very good, and the top floor terrace is nice to hang out on. Consider the Clipper Elb instead across the street. Not a good value here and uncomfortable.

TL; DR;DO NOT GO HERE. This hotel canceled my confirmed reservation last minute, while I was literally standing in the lobby, falsely claimed I canceled by phone, and refused to provide proof or offer a proper solution. I had to book my own expensive 2 star hotel last-minute and only got a partial refund later. Likely a breach of contractual obligations. Neither GINN hotel nor booking.com ever claimed responsibility for this screw up. Truly an experience I would only wish on my archnemesis. Continue reading for more exciting details.----When I arrived in July, the room I had booked via Booking.com (confirmed, active, and guaranteed by credit card: see screenshot made on July 22nd) was not available. According to GINN Hotel, I had canceled by phone. I have literally never called any hotel for any reason; I do everything online or via email. I showed them my phone number and asked them to confirm if it was the number that canceled the reservation. They refused. I then asked them to show me the last three digits of the phone number that had canceled (which wouldn't violate GDPR). They refused again. I tried to speak to a manager, who was in the same building but only wanted to speak to me on the phone. I refused and said I would wait. I waited a little over an hour before she came out. Apparently, there was time for a phone call, but a face-to-face conversation was too time-consuming, it seems?I had booked two nights at the hotel for a price of 270 euros. The room was unavailable when I arrived (and they blamed it on me despite my active reservation). Their "solution" was: "You can stay here for one night, and tomorrow we'll see what happens." I told them this was not a good solution because I would be busy tomorrow at a concert and wouldn't have time to switch hotels. They did not care at all.If a hotel cancels last minute due to a double booking, the hotel MUST offer another hotel of similar or BETTER quality and cover the difference. They repeatedly refused to do this. During my stay, nearly every hotel within a 15 km radius of Hamburg was sold out due to the concert. I spent nearly two hours standing in the lobby, trying to talk to the staff. There was only a receptionist who called his boss, who then called his boss, who then called his boss. No solution was offered other than, "You can stay here for one night, and then we'll see."Because they offered no solution whatsoever for day two, and I didn’t want to risk ending up without a place to stay, I ended up booking a 2-star hotel myself. As I mentioned earlier, since almost everything was sold out, this cost me a whopping 400 euros.I'll give them 1 star because, 5 or 6 weeks later, they did pay me the difference (130 euros). However, it was not a hotel of similar quality at all. The reviews about this hotel aren't great, but the one I stayed in was definitely worse. It was a room above a Chinese restaurant next to a train station. To whoever was behind the counter on July 22nd around 8 pm—you seemed like a good lad. I hope you've found a better place to work where you're not forced to breach contracts. To the manager I spoke with, I believe her name was Katarina—you are extremely unprofessional and definitely shouldn’t be in a management position.GINN management: check your employees. Breaching contractuel obligations and refusing to offer a reasonable solution is not something you want your hotel to be known for.Or are your employees trying to say that a 2-star hotel above a Chinese restaurant is considered to be 'similar quality'? For those that want to find out for themselves, best of luck to you...

1) The worst first, showers. Every single time me or anyone in a nearby room takes a shower you have loud pipe noise the entire time someone is showering as if someone is dying. I'm a pretty sound sleeper but that will wake you up.2) Views are amazing. They are doing some remodeling inside, but I had a view of the docks and had a little window nook to sit and read from while seeing everything.3) Mixed review on the restaurant. So the beer I had tasted soapy. I tried 2 different ones on tap and both were soapy which is usually a yeast problem not really sure, but it's beer so I kept drinking till I didn't care anymore. Then there was the food. The food was quite delicious, however, I guess there was an event or something somewhere resulting in me having to wait nearly 2 hours for a burger and fries... It was late and cold so I didn't want to go elsewhere so I waited... But the food was good.Overall, friendly staff, English speaking, nice views, and good food.

Very nice and comfortable rooms here with their brown and black theme that runs through the hotel. It was a bit WeWork ish though. One thing negative is the plumbing. It’s extremely noisy. Especially the airplane sounding toilet whenever you flush.

The rooms are small, but have a very nice and functional design. The building is really cool and next to the Fischmarkt - but you should check if the location is right for you. It's not really close to public transport, but in a somewhat artsy area.
