"Toned down version" because I was threatened with a complaint/injunction after the original was published (no joke!)For information: I was on a school trip to the Western Cape Wangerooge in October 2017. Everything mentioned reflects the status of this point in time.The review regularly disappears. I can't say whether this will be removed by Google or the operator. If the operator removes my review, I kindly refer to Art. 5 GG (freedom of expression)This youth hostel is not recommended.The toilets were unclean and had an unpleasant smell.Woodlice and other insects lived in some sinks and in the wet rooms (there are only communal showers).In the common room in the main house there is an information letter about the said woodlice and why it is not a bad thing that they live in the said wet cells (What is the purpose of that?)The bedding was partly dirty and had stains.Trash cans and other furnishings sometimes had more, sometimes less mold.The food was not well prepared, some of the food was not fully baked or was burnt.I upload pictures to this review every time, which are then always removed by the operator, which in my opinion says it all. However, this was the only school trip that I was able to experience in my 13 years of schooling in which the youth hostel was in such a catastrophic condition. You don't ask for much, but basic hygiene and that all students receive all essential nutrients should be a minimum.Unfortunately, the operating team doesn't seem to be very open to criticism, which can be seen in the not very adult-looking answers to the countless (in my opinion rightly so) negative reviews. I was able to experience this myself because of the threatened report.With this review I do not intend to harm this company in any way. My intention is much more to spare other people the experience that I unfortunately had to go through.I repeat again: The review reflects the status of my visit in October 2017. I can't say whether the operator has made any improvements since then.

So I don't know what everyone here has. It's just a youth hostel. I thought it was very, very good at the time. We had a barbecue once and the food was delicious. Of course the showers aren't great, but they're still very sufficient for a beach holiday

So...They are not fake comments. There are not only communal showers and if you want a clean and freshly made bed every day, you should go to a 5 star hotel.We're here for the second time now and we're thrilled every time. The rooms are just right. You have everything you need inside. The fact that little things have to be done here and there is everywhere. But these are things that you can absolutely ignore. Other than that, we are all just human.Food is completely sufficient and is always delicious. The staff is always friendly and up for a joke.Personally, I find the atmosphere very familiar and relaxing.We would be happy to come back at any time. You make the top. Keep it up...👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

We were there with our children in the group. The guest house is in a quiet location and close to the beach. The people who work there have hearts and minds and are very, very likeable. We have been visiting the guest house for several years now and have always received a very warm and warm welcome. Our group children are enthusiastic and always want to go back to the guest house. The food is delicious, healthy and filling. Here we also pay attention to sustainability and nature, which my colleague and I find valuable and good. Long story short: If you want something good and cheap, you can buy it here without hesitation. If you're looking for pure luxury, you've come to the wrong place. The "Skipper" (hostel father) also often organizes film screenings and events on the subject of the sea and nature conservation for the children. The information is presented here in a child-friendly and exciting way if groups are interested and the time quota is available.

I was in the Western Cape from September 18th to 22nd, 2023 and I'm annoyed that I forgot to ask for the recipe for the delicious tomato soup ;-)).As a single person, I lived in a small apartment decorated with beautiful colors (without the use of a stove).At the same time as me, around 60 challenging and demanding children and young teenagers, plus teachers and assistants, were present on their school holidays.Just around the corner from the Western Cape there is an affordable bike rental with reasonable bikes (different sizes, types of gears and uncomplicated rental practices, which is not always common on the coast).I experienced the Western Cape household itself as a place that is run by a highly committed couple who care about a lot more than just thoughts: ecology, the future, the conditions for the possibility of collective action and about how we can treat each other fairly. My requests were promptly addressed. The house is not a four-star Hilton, but a grown-up place with history and then there's room for something to rattle somewhere: I'd rather be in a warm atmosphere than in a sterile, stylish, up-to-date thing. The apartment's shower is very modern (in my opinion) and has a water-saving mechanism, which I would like to see in every hotel.In the Western Cape I experienced people who made it possible for me to participate as an individual guest and a staff who, despite the hard work, carried on with humor and resilience.I felt very well!! Thanks for the nice time!!The point deduction for "location" is because I don't understand why the island train apparently only runs when the ferry is running. Personally, I think it's legitimate that in the west you don't just want to hang on the hook, but also simply want to be able to travel comfortably between the two parts of the island without having to pedal around - in headwinds... :-)). From this point of view, I felt a bit left behind at the location, but that's not the fault of the house, but rather the operator of the island railway, who apparently thinks that only the clientele who spend the night in 'Dorf 2' is relevant.

Family atmosphere, very quiet location, very friendly and helpful staff, highly recommended for a relaxing holiday 😀

The western end of the island.a few houses, youth hostels, a hotel with a restaurant, the west tower as a sight. A lot of dikes with fields, a lot of water around, so a lot of area.Unfortunately, there is currently a lot of construction going on towards the sea along the dike (August 23), so almost all dike crossings are closed, so don't trample through the protected dunes, you philistines!Otherwise the port/pier is nearby, nothing else. Beach sections are so-so, you can't get into the salt marshes anyway - no entry, nature conservation, quiet zone.Worthwhile as a destination for a walk.

Very family-friendly and extremely friendly hosts! Large apartment with extra bathroom - great for the five of us! Covered bike racks were perfect for any weather - rented just around the corner and daily! used! Volleyball and soccer field on the doorstep. Booked with half board, you can plan better and start the day without stress.

We spent 4 wonderful and uncomplicated days here as a family with our 8 and 11 year old daughters. You can quickly find friends big and small in your own playground, soccer field, large games room or dining room. Not thinking about what to eat today helped to relax. The half board with freshly cooked dinner and breakfast every day is a great value for money.
