I always find it hard to review a London hotel like this. Just clicking on a star does not give any context. This is a 2-3 star hotel. It's old, it's noisy, and it needs an update... BUT, *for the price*, the location was great and in London the other stuff (small rooms, squeaky floor) is just what you get and that makes it perfect. We loved staying here. Front staff was pleasant, and we had no problems. Who cares if the paintings on the walls were from a 1980's thrift shop. Just need a place to shower and sleep. It's not like we're moving in. Thanks!

Ideal location near to Paddington Mainline station and various cafes and tourist spots. There is some Underground train noise but this stops overnight. …

Fantastic location close to Paddington station and buses to everywhere else. Friendly staff. Room was small but had nice view of Norfolk Square. Comfortable beds. Modern bathroom. Excellent choice of hot and cold food for breakfast. Very attentive waiting staff. Perfect

The hotel, chosen also because we had just returned from a brief holiday at Stratford-on-Avon, lived up to our expectations. It was also our last stop before leaving the UK. …

Great service and location from the station. However the hotel is dated and needs some freshening up. The corridors are squeaky and you can hear every door bang and lots of movements from other rooms.I was in the 5 bed room (even though it was only me) I didn't book it but was advised that is all they had left. It was OK but quite narrow to navigate to the bathroom. There was lots of graffiti on the fireplace too.As I say it was OK but just needs a bit of TLC

My experience is as follows:1. Booking cancelled without a call or message only to be discovered upon arrival at site2. I stumbled down the narrow stairs trying to navigate to a basement room that was tiny and basic. The stairs is very dangerous for kids and moving with luggage. Bumped by head also as the ceiling was too low.3. The staff was very unhelpful, imagine navigating a situation of making an over the counter booking, there the rooms have to be changed mid-stay (checkout at 11 and check in at 2 with a child) climbing steep, small stairs with no lift, a child and lots of luggage, no consideration for guests whatsoever4. Maybe suitable for couples who wish for a romp in the sack

The room was very tiny. I expected it to be small but it was way smaller than I anticipated. The bed felt more like a twin than a double it was comfortable though once we figure out how to get two full grown adults on it. …

Excellent location, plenty of useful shops and treat eating places nearby. The room had everything we needed, beds really comfy. The staff were so kind to us when we needed some adjustments to our booking. Thanks so much for looking after us so well. We will definitely be back!

The Shakespeare Hotel near Paddington Station is comically awful. The halls smelled like a dirty jock strap, the room was stuffy, and there was no airflow since we were in the basement. The underground rumbled every few minutes except between 1am and 430am, the walls were paper thin and we could hear neighbours showering and talking, and the stairs were really narrow and steep. My sister was trying to find a cute boutique hotel, and based on the price, thought that this was one of them. The decor hadn't been updated since the nineties, which could be cute but was not. It was just kind of worn out. The staff were all really rude, except for one charming French guy. They're was a sign saying the tap water wasn't potable, and a crabby staff member said we could brush our teeth with it if we didn't swallow. There is a communal drinking water tap in a common room on the main floor. The bed was saggy. Lots of rooms did not have an en suite. Ours did, and the ceiling was mouldy. I'm not a picky person, but this place sucked for the price. It would make a fantastic cheap hostel.DO NOT come here if you have any accessibility issues/needs.
